247Sports projects Auburn facing another powerhouse in bowl game

The two teams haven’t met since 1991 when Auburn defeated Texas 14-10.

It is going to be a strange year for bowls as the Big Ten and Pac-12 have opted out of the 2020 college football season, yet there is still some good matchups that could be seen in the postseason.

247Sports posted its updated bowl projections for the 2020 season with Auburn facing another powerhouse program, one that has the tendency to describe themselves as “back.”

Texas vs. Auburn

The Big 12’s potential runner-up against a quality opponent from the SEC? Here’s a rarity pitting two respected programs. Ironically, the Longhorns and Tigers have met once before in a Florida-based bowl game, that coming in 1974 (Gator in Jacksonville). This would be an important game for both head coaches, too. There’s some sense of pressure surrounding Tom Herman and Gus Malzahn this fall as preseason contenders.

Not sure about you, but I would love to face the Longhorns in a bowl game and see how the Tigers fare against Herman’s team. The two teams haven’t met since 1991 when Auburn walked away with a 14-10 victory.
