Four-star running back [autotag]Mark Fletcher[/autotag] of American Heritage in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, backed off his pledge to the Ohio State Buckeyes recently, and the experts at 247Sports like Florida as a possible landing spot for the elite talent.
Swamp247’s Blake Alderman logged a crystal ball for Fletcher in favor of Florida on Wednesday, albeit with medium confidence. The reason for the prediction is simple: Fletcher backed off his commitment to Ohio State after visiting the Swamp to see Florida take down South Carolina, and running backs coach Jabbar Juluke has kept a close eye on him.
“They actually have been recruiting me heavy,” Fletcher said to 247Sports earlier in the week. “I just wanted to get up there and see what they were about and everything. It was a good game.”

Florida’s run game has been its biggest strength this year, and Billy Napier has proven that he can balance carries between talented players with varying levels of experience. UF’s two lead backs this season are Louisiana transfer [autotag]Montrell Johnson Jr[/autotag]. and true freshman [autotag]Trevor Etienne[/autotag]. Both are averaging over 6.0 yards per carry on the year.
Florida’s main competition right now for Fletcher is Miami. The Hurricanes are the closest Power Five program to him geographically and UM has gone toe-to-toe with Florida for several in-state recruits this year. Things appear to be pointing in Florida’s direction, but nothing is guaranteed in the recruiting game.
The 247Sports composite ranks Fletcher at No. 261 overall in the class of 2023 and No. 15 among running backs in the class. Florida’s current running back commit in the class, four-star [autotag]Treyaun Webb[/autotag], appears to be all in on recruiting Fletcher to the class as well.
