A whopping 220 student-athletes were named Big Ten Distinguished Scholars on Tuesday. The total leads all Big Ten institutions and furthers the positive news we continue to hear with academics coming out of Columbus. It is the second-most honored in the history of Ohio State behind 232 recognized in the 2020-2021 academic year. It’s the third year in a row OSU has led the Big Ten.
To receive the Big Ten Distinguished Scholar Award recipients must have earned Academic All-Big Ten recognition in the previous academic year, must have been enrolled full time at the institution for the entire previous academic year (two semesters or three quarters), and earned a minimum grade-point average of 3.70 or better during the previous academic year, excluding any summer grades. The Academic All-Big Ten threshold is a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or higher for a student-athlete’s academic career.
