Zay Flowers is hurt and Ravens rookie WR Devontez Walker is ready

Baltimore Ravens rookie WR Devontez Walker deserves his chance and OC Todd Monken has to stop blocking his shine.

Only one factor has prevented Baltimore Ravens offensive coordinator Todd Monken from giving rookie wide receiver Devontez Walker more reps in the offensive scheme. With wide receiver Zay Flowers injured, Monken must deploy Walker in the AFC Wild Card round.

Wide receiver Rashod Bateman played great versus the Cleveland Browns, finishing with five receptions, a touchdown, and 76 receiving yards. Yet, quarterback Lamar Jackson only completed six of his 16 pass completions to wide receivers on the afternoon. Monken has to stop being so stoic and sure-minded just because his offensive talents have made him look like a genius this season. Both Walker and allow reserve receiver Tylan Wallace to be an asset to him.

In the playoffs, where teams like the Browns will not appear in 2025, the Ravens offense cannot afford to have continuous hiccups and empty offensive possessions. Neither can Monken allow his offense to stutter into a rhythm because the defense, though superb of late, has struggled versus the higher-tiered teams in the NFL.

Monken’s papass-heavy attack was ineffectiven Week 18, anbutalker can help his ideals come totrue if he giveshe rookie a chance.

Final score: Chiefs lose to Broncos 38-0 in regular season finale

The Kansas City #Chiefs were manhandled by the Denver #Broncos in their regular season finale on Sunday.

The Kansas City Chiefs were absolutely dominated by the Denver Broncos in Week 18.

In a game where the Chiefs’ offense gained less than 100 net yards, Kansas City ultimately lost the AFC West showdown 38-0 and ended its regular season campaign with a 15-2 record.

The Chiefs rested their starters in Week 18 after clinching the No. 1 seed for the AFC playoffs with a win over the Pittsburgh Steelers on Christmas Day.

Rookie quarterback Bo Nix stunned Kansas City’s defense with a dominant performance in which he completed 26 of his 29 passing attempts for 321 yards and three touchdowns without being intercepted.

In contrast, veteran signal-caller Carson Wentz—who was under center for Kansas City while Patrick Mahomes got some well-deserved time off—threw for 98 yards, and only managed to complete 10 of his 17 attempts.

This contest was an absolute abomination. It was functionally treated as a preseason game by the Chiefs, and Denver needed a win to punch their ticket to the postseason.

Despite the loss, Kansas City has a much clearer path to a Super Bowl LIX victory than the Broncos, who will face the Buffalo Bills in the Wild Card round of the playoffs next week while the Chiefs take a bye.

Washington can’t complete comeback, falling 81-77 to No. 22 Illinois

Washington was unable to mount a nearly miraculous comeback in the second half against Illinois.

It was the same story on a different day for coach Danny Sprinkle and the Washington Huskies, who fell 81-77 to the No. 22 Illinois Fighting Illini inside Alaska Airlines Arena on Sunday afternoon. For the first 10 minutes of the contest, the Huskies couldn’t buy a bucket, falling behind by as many as 17 points.

The Illini were led by standout freshman Kasparas Jakucionis, who finished the day with 18 points, 5 rebounds, and 6 assists, and were nearly insurmountable, never trailing in the game.

“I liked the flow of our offense in the game even though it was 27-10,” Sprinkle said after the game. “We’re getting what we wanted to get, it’s just that shots weren’t falling.

Despite a poor night from the floor, shooting just 43.1 percent for the game, Huskies were able to knot the score at 75-75 in the game’s final minute thanks to an errant inbounds pass that Luis Kortright took to the basket. But just like they had all afternoon, Illinois had an answer, with Jakucionis banking in the eventual game-winning layup on the next possession.

Hec Edmunson Pavilion was the loudest it had been all season, but it didn’t phase coach Bret Underwood’s team, which came up clutch at several different moments in the game’s final five minutes to pad the lead and keep Washington out of striking distance for the majority of the second half.

Senior DJ Davis did everything he could to keep the Huskies in the game. After coming in off the bench, the Butler transfer was unconscious from three-point range, going 7-14 from deep and finishing with a game-high 30 points.

“Whenever my number is called, I’m ready to do what’s best for the team,” Davis said.

The Illini held senior Great Osobor to just one rebound in the first half. He had a very quiet game, finishing with a meager 9 points and 4 rebounds, but he held his own on the defensive end, showing great hustle with 4 steals and a block in the contest.

Despite the loss, Sprinkle’s team showed guts against the NCAA’s No. 5 NET-ranked team, an important factor in determining March Madness seeding. With four of their next five games coming against ranked opponents, if the Huskies can find a way to get over their slow starts and early shooting woes, they may have a chance to make some noise in the Big Ten.

Bengals officially eliminated from playoffs

The Bengals didn’t have the things out of their control go their way on Sunday.

The Cincinnati Bengals could only watch from afar as their playoff hopes were extinguished on Sunday.

There, the Kansas City Chiefs trotted out backups against the Denver Broncos and were promptly blown out, 38-0. That result sends the Broncos to the seventh and final seed in the AFC playoffs.

Joe Burrow and the Bengals took care of business on Saturday night with the Week 18 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers in the season finale. But they needed Jets and Chiefs upsets to slip in as the last and final seed.

The Bengals finished the season on a five-game tear, winning more games in the final five weeks than they had over the first 13. They desperately needed to not drop the opener against three-win New England, a one-point loss to Kansas City or both games to Baltimore by a combined total of four points, to name a few close outcomes.

Rest assured, the slow starts under head coach Zac Taylor will once again be a major point of conversation this offseason.
