As Texas continues to prepare for Hurricane Beryl, plans are being changed, including the commitment date for one of the top wide receivers in the 2025 recruiting class, which was set for Monday afternoon.
On Sunday, On3’s Chad Simmons spoke to 2025 four-star wide receiver Kelshaun Johnson, who is predicted to land with Texas A&M after taking an official visit to College Station on June 6. Johnson stated that due to Hurricane preparations, he plans to announce his commitment on Wednesday, July 10.
“I have moved it back to Wednesday. We are still working on a time.”
While the Aggies are the overwhelming favorites according to several 247Sports recruiting analysts, the Texas Longhorns remain in play. Johnson explained that both in-state programs are the finalists:
“They are great schools. I like the coaches at Texas and Texas A&M, both have good offense.”
With new offensive coordinator Collin Klein taking over play-calling duties this coming season, recruits, including Johnson, have been provided a clear vision of how they’ll fit in the Aggies offense.
According to On3, Johnson is ranked 221st among prospects in the 2025 class, 30th among wide receiver prospects and 37th among prospects in Texas. If Johnson commits to Texas A&M, he will join three-star wide receiver Tristan Norman as the receiver commits in the class.
