Kyle Van Noy in favor of spending time with Ravens teammates ahead of regular season

Ravens outside linebacker Kyle Van Noy is in favor of spending time with teammates before the season begins

The Baltimore Ravens will kick off training camp in a few weeks in anticipation of the 2024 season. The team will open up the NFL season against the Kansas City Chiefs on Thursday Night Football, so Baltimore’s rookies and vets will report a few days earlier than most teams.

Players need to gain chemistry with each other, especially before the season begins. When asked about his thoughts, Ravens outside linebacker Kyle Van Noy talked about the importance of building relationships, such as getting to know his teammates and their families and hanging out with them off the field.

“I think it’s good because – I say this without saying it in the wrong way – the bullets aren’t flying yet. So, you get you get a better understanding that things are a little bit more calm, [and] you can build relationships. You’re not on the field, popping in Week Three [while] action is going on, [saying] ‘Hey, what’s your name’ type of deal. So, it’s fun to be around guys that I know and get to know them [and] their families, hang out with them off the field [and] build that relationship to when things get on the field and [it’s] a little hazy, you have a better understanding of where each and every person is coming from.”

While on-field performance is important, off-field chemistry can sometimes separate good teams from contenders. Baltimore is known as one of the best organizations in the NFL, and part of the reason for that distinction is its emphasis on off-field culture.

Washington receives crystal ball predictions to land top 2026 in-state prospect

Shortly after his older brother committed to Washington, multiple insiders predicted Derek Colman-Brusa would also pick the Huskies.

The Washington Huskies added a commitment from three-star offensive lineman Lowen Colman-Brusa on Thursday, who is a promising prospect that brings a lot of upside to offensive coordinator Brennan Carroll’s offensive line.

That might not be the only thing he brings with him, as his younger brother Derek, received multiple crystal ball predictions from 247Sports’ national recruiting analysts to commit to Washington within minutes of his pledge.

Derek is one of the most sought-after targets in the 2026 class and is ranked as the top player in the state, as well as the nation’s No. 17 edge rusher and No. 142 overall player by 247Sports. As a rising junior, he holds 13 offers from some of the nation’s top programs, including Ohio State, Oregon, Tennessee, and USC.

The younger Colman-Brusa is a lot of fun to watch on film. When he lines up on the interior, his first step is too quick for most high school guards, which leads to him getting into the backfield untouched routinely. At 6-foot-4 and 230 pounds, he also does a good job setting the edge and plays with an encouraging amount of strength.

His best feature might be his motor, because when combined with his athleticism, Derek doesn’t look like an edge rusher when chasing down plays that are on the other side of the field.

If coach Jedd Fisch and defensive line coach Jason Kaufusi can lock down an early commitment from the younger Colman-Brusa, it would be a significant recruiting win Washington hasn’t seen since the early days of Chris Petersen. Assuming Derek follows in the footsteps of his brother and four-star linebacker Zaydrius Rainey-Sale, his pledge would mark the first time the Huskies have reeled in the top in-state prospect in back-to-back recruiting classes since 2014 (Budda Baker) and 2015 (Henry Roberts).

Adrian Yanez’s ideal return: Daniel Santos or John Castaneda at Noche UFC

Adrian Yanez would like to fight Daniel Santos or John Castaneda at Noche UFC on Sept. 14.

LAS VEGAS – [autotag]Adrian Yanez[/autotag] wants to honor his Mexican heritage by partaking in the second annual Noche UFC event.

The UFC bantamweight is looking to compete on the card that celebrates Mexican Independence Day, and he already has a couple of names in mind for that potential opportunity.

“Daniel Santos or John Castañeda,” Yanez told MMA Junkie Radio on radio row at UFC X. “That gym has been calling me out, so I would like to take that fight. Also, Daniel Santos because he’s been calling me out.”

Yanez (17-5 MMA, 6-2 UFC) was recently called out by the hot prospect Payton Talbott after his victory at UFC 303. Speaking to MMA Mania, Yanez addressed the callout, saying he’d be down to fight him.

Noche UFC goes down on Sept. 14 at Sphere in Las Vegas. It’s been a highly requested card to compete in given its venue, which UFC CEO Dana White has hyped up to be one of the greatest combat sports event in history.

“Oh, man. I would do that all day, every day,” Yanez said regarding a potential fight at Noche UFC. “If they gave me the opportunity, I would take that opportunity and run with it. Fight there, so I could be the very first fight … get in, get out and then watch everything else. I don’t know, it would be fun. I would like to.”

ESPN ranks the Ravens under-25 talent third best in NFL

The Baltimore Ravens placed third in an ESPN ranking of teams with the best talent under the age of 25.

The Baltimore Ravens placed third in an ESPN ranking of teams with the best talent under the age of 25. To quote “My Shot,” from the wildly popular musical Hamilton, “and just like my country, I’m young, scrappy and hungry.”

The Ravens boast a group of very talented, extremely hard-working and overly ambitious young players, led by safety Kyle Hamilton (what a natural segue this Fourth of July).

It is not a hot take to say that Hamilton, 23, is or will soon become the best overall safety in the league. After this season, he’s do for a contract extension, and his new deal could set the market for safeties.

Hamilton has been so dominant, his first two seasons in the National Football League, that a new contract could see him replace the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Antoine Winfield as the highest paid defensive back of all-time.

Then you have Zay Flowers, 23, who will be the Ravens #1 wideout in just his second year in the NFL. Flowers set a Ravens franchise record for most receptions (77) and receiving yards (858) by a rookie in 2023.

And he’s been working hard this offseason to take his game to the next level.

Next is Tyler Linderbaum, 24, a stellar center who checked in at exactly #100 in a recent top 100 players in the league list. Linderbaum made the PFWA All-Rookie team in 2022 and the Pro Bowl in 2023.

His career is very much on the upward trajectory; much like the other two members of this young, emerging trio. The future looks very bright for Hamilton, Flowers, Linderbaum and the rest of the U25 Ravens players.

Orioles at A’s picks and predictions

Prediction

Orioles 6, A’s 4

Moneyline

The Orioles (-190) will likely win with their advantage at starting pitcher, but it’s a losing proposition long term to lay -180 or more while betting into 35-cent lines.

PASS. Bet the run line and/or total instead.

Run line/Against the spread

Plus odds on the run line would’ve been nice, but the Orioles -1.5 (-115) are still okay to bet at this number. Baltimore is an MLB-best 50-37 on the run line this season, according to Teamrankings.com, and is in a good spot to bounce back facing the worst team in the AL West.

BET ORIOLES -1.5 (-115).

Over/Under

The Over is 16-8-3 (66.7%) this season when the Orioles are away favorites and 16-10-5 (61.5%) when they’re coming off a loss. Harris allowed 10 hits against the Diamondbacks Saturday and was lucky to only give up 3 ER; it’s unlikely that he stays that lucky against Baltimore.

BET OVER 8.5 (-110).

The Formula 1 film currently in production starring Brad Pitt has officially revealed its title: simply, “F1.”

The Joseph Kosinski-directed film is still shooting — including at this weekend’s British Grand Prix — and being produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, Chad Oman, Dede Gardner, Jeremy Kleiner and Lewis Hamilton. With a release date in June 2025 recently confirmed the film’s name has also been announced, with the “F1” title also incorporating the sport’s official logo on the movie poster.

The first official teaser for the film will air during this weekend’s coverage of the British Grand Prix, going out at 9:33am ET on Sunday in the build-up to the race start.

Filming has been taking place at multiple races throughout 2023 — the season in which the film will be set — including at Silverstone, Hungaroring, Spa-Francorchamps, Zandvoort, Monza, Las Vegas and Abu Dhabi, while this year races at Suzuka and Mexico City will be added to those locations.

Originally all filming was due to take place at races in 2023, but the Screen Actors Guild – American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) strike last year has meant further scenes needed capturing in 2024, including live on-track runs from Pitt at Silverstone this weekend.

From Apple Original Films, “F1” will see Pitt starring as a veteran driver who returns to the sport to help a fictional team — APXGP — alongside a teammate played by Damson Idris.

The film will be distributed in theaters around the world and in IMAX by Warner Bros. Pictures internationally on June 25, 2025, and in North America on June 27, 2025.

Chris Olave was the obvious choice for the Saints’ best building block

Bleacher Report listed off each team’s best building block. Is there any surprise Chris Olave was picked for the New Orleans Saints?

Bleacher Report’s David Kenyon highlighted the best building block on every team. Is it any surprised he selected Chris Olave as the New Orleans Saints top foundational piece?

Kenyon specified only players still on their rookie contract were eligible for this list. For example, George Karlaftis was the selection for the Kansas City Chiefs instead of Patrick Mahomes. Olave likely would have been the selection for the Saints even without that caveat simply due to his age in comparison to most of the team’s key players. But here’s why Kenyon highlighted him:

Pro Bowl-type recognition may be around the corner for Chris Olave, considering he already has a couple of 1,000-yard seasons. New Orleans would be justified to believe he’ll headline the receiving corps for the remainder of the decade—and maybe more.

Entering his third year, he is fully entrenched as the Saints top wide receiver. He has occupied that role in his first two years, but injuries played a part in how much the Saints relied on him. With or without injuries, he has been looked at as the man from the start.

Olave should look to cross the 1,200 receiving yard threshold this season to further entrench his position and justify some of the hype. If he takes the same leap as last year, he will narrowly eclipse that number. Olave will be the focal point of the passing attack in 2024. Listing him as New Orleans’ best building block was the obvious choice, but that could change if young draft picks like Taliese Fuaga and Bryan Bresee rapidly develop.

What ‘Hard Knocks’ wants to highlight during Bears season

Bears rookie Caleb Williams will no doubt be the focus during “Hard Knocks” this summer. But what else will the crew highlight?

The Chicago Bears will be the featured team on HBO’s summer “Hard Knocks,” which will spotlight them during training camp and preseason leading into an exciting 2024 season.

It’s a thrilling time for Bears fans after general manager Ryan Poles made some big moves, including the additions of first-round rookies Caleb Williams and Rome Odunze and veteran Keenan Allen.

NFL Films senior producer and director Shannon Furman spoke with NBC Sports Chicago about what she’s excited to highlight during summer “Hard Knocks,” which includes spotlighting a charter franchise.

“We’re all excited to have a team that’s been around since the start of the NFL,” Furman said. “It’s a deep history. We’re going to try to include some of that into the show this summer.

“I mean, Chicago’s a great city, it’s a great city to be in in the summertime. I know we’re excited to be able to be there and not be somewhere where we’re roasting hot. My first one was in Houston, that might have been the hottest it’s ever been for ‘Hard Knocks.’ Went to Tampa two years later. So that was pretty, pretty aggressive, too.”

There’s no doubt Williams, the No. 1 overall pick, will be the focal point of “Hard Knocks.” But there will be plenty of focus elsewhere, including the wide receiver room which features one of the league’s best with DJ Moore, Allen and Odunze.

“One of our position groups we’re most excited about is probably the wide receiver room,” Furman said. “DJ Moore, his daughter we’ve seen, we think that she’s going to be a lot of fun.”

But, as expected, Chicago’s top two rookies figure to be the focus as the Bears look to make strides as a franchise. Williams and Odunze have been the talk of Chicago and the NFL world during the offseason, so getting to spotlight these rookies’ budding friendship on and off the field will be a highlight.

“I mean, Rome (Odunze) too, he’s the ninth pick. So it’s kinda crazy, you have two top-10 picks to highlight as rookies that are kind of unknowns,” Furman said. “It’s a story you’re getting to tell people for the first time, at least on the NFL level. People do, they did follow his college career for the past two years and everything. But I do think that helps out when you have something like a new story that’s fresh and people in the city want to learn about and everything.”

According to NBC Sports Chicago, the “Hard Knocks” crew will be at Halas Hall of July 14 — about a week before the players take to the practice field on July 20. There will plenty to cover from the start of camp to the Hall of Fame (including the induction of three Bears greats and the game itself against the Houston Texans) to the roster cutdown process.

The first episode of the five-part series, “Hard Knocks: Training Camp with the Chicago Bears,” premieres Tuesday, August 6 at 8 p.m. CT on HBO and Max.
