After five showcase games that spanned from Las Vegas to Abu Dhabi to London, the Olympic Games in Paris is the next step for Team USA. Steve Kerr, Stephen Curry, LeBron James, Kevin Durant and the rest of Team USA will suit up for their first official Olympic contest on Sunday morning against Nikola Jokic and Serbia.
Team USA met Serbia earlier this month in an exhibition game. Behind a game-high 24 points from Curry, Team USA rolled to a dominant win over FIBA’s No. 4 ranked team in the world. Jokic tallied 16 points on 6-of-19 shooting from the field with 11 rebounds and two assists in Serbia’s 105-79 loss to Team USA.
Team USA will follow Serbia in Group C with a highly-anticipated rematch with South Sudan. South Sudan gave Team USA their toughest test in the showcase series. James helped Team USA survive with a 101-100 win over South Sudan.
Team USA will round out Group C with a matchup against Puerto Rico, FIBA’s No. 16-ranked team in the world.
Each win in the group stage is worth two points, and the top two teams in each group advance to the knockout quarterfinals. Teams in the same group can’t be drawn against each other again.
Here is a look at the Team USA’s group stage schedule:
- July 28 – 8:15 a.m. PT vs. Serbia – Lille, France
- July 31 – 12:00 p.m. PT vs. South Sudan – Lille, France
- Aug. 3 – 8:15 a.m. PT vs. Puerto Rico – Lille, France
