The Tampa Bay Buccaneers head into the 2024 offseason with a long list of pressing needs on both sides of the ball, but perhaps the biggest question mark at the moment lies at the game’s most important position.
Until the Bucs are able to secure Baker Mayfield with a long-term contract extension, there will remain the need for the team to have a solution at quarterback. If Mayfield hits the open market, and the Bucs aren’t able to outbid the competition for his services, they could be left searching for a new veteran or rookie to replace him.
If Mayfield doesn’t return, the Bucs could be forced to target a quarterback in the first round of the 2024 NFL draft. Even though they’d miss out on the elite prospects (we could have three taken in the first three picks), they could target a second-tier passer, even in trade-up scenario.
If Mayfield does return, they could still use a later-round pick to add a young, developmental player to the quarterback room as a long-term investment beyond Kyle Trask, whose current contract ends after the 2024 season.
