2024 linebacker depth is something USC and Lincoln Riley need to address

.@TrojanConquests made a key point about #USC’s 2024 linebacker room. Trojan Conquest Live with Tim Prangley and @LBCTrojan airs Sunday evenings.

USC is preparing for its 2023 college football season, but the Trojans are also assembling their 2024 roster on the recruiting trail. It’s true that the transfer portal exists as a way to quickly stockpile talent, but recruiting needs to supplement what the portal provides.

If one position group stands out as an area USC needs to address for 2024, Trojan football analyst Tim Prangley — the co-host of Trojan Conquest Live with Rick Anaya at The Voice of College Football — has a clear answer:

“I am really looking forward to what Mason Cobb, Eric Gentry, Raesjon Davis, and Shane Lee will do this year, but most of them will be gone in 2024 when USC enters the Big Ten,” Prangley noted. “That will leave the team with only four inside linebackers: Tackett Curtis, a then true sophomore; Garrison Madden; converted tight end Carson Tabaracci; and converted safety Chris Thompson Jr.

“Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa — if USC can land him — and Tackett would bring back memories of Rey Maualuga and Brian Cushing: big, athletic, hard-hitting linebackers who play with high motors and bad intentions. That’s the exact duo we need to create a national championship defense.”
