Analyzing NFL Super Bowl odds for the Detroit Lions, including best bets for win total, conference and division titles.

The Detroit Lions had been the NFL’s punch line for years, but there’s no one laughing now.

They finished the 2023 regular season in a 3-way tie for the best record in the NFC (12-5) and as the 3 seed in the conference (they lost tiebreakers to the San Francisco 49ers and Dallas Cowboys).

This team came a field goal short of going to its 1st Super Bowl in franchise history. It’s safe to say that coach Dan Campbell has successfully changed the culture of losing in the Motor City.

When the Lions traded franchise QB Matthew Stafford to the Los Angeles Rams for QB Jared Goff in 2021, they were ridiculed for the move, and it was exacerbated when the Rams won Super Bowl LVI. While that had to sting, Detroit responded by building one of the most talented rosters in the NFL that could be a serious title contender for years to come.

GM Brad Holmes put a priority on locking up the cornerstones of their franchise this off-season. They gave long-term deals to Goff, OT Penei Sewell, and WR Amon-Ra St. Brown.

After getting those deals done, Detroit focused on revamping its secondary which gave up the 2nd-most passing yards per game in 2023. It started by trading for veteran CB Carlton Davis III and signing versatile veteran CB Amik Robertson in free agency.

It didn’t end there, it also spent its 1st 2 draft picks on CB Terrion Arnold at No. 24 overall and CB Ennis Rakestraw Jr. at No. 61 overall. They were the 2 highest-graded corners in this year’s draft.

The Lions will have to embrace huge expectations for the 2024 season — something they haven’t had to deal with before — but I feel they are more than up for the challenge.

Below, we look at the Detroit Lions 2024 NFL Super Bowl odds from FanDuel Sportsbook along with projected win total, playoff, conference and division odds as we make our best NFL picks and predictions.

Lions over/under win total

Odds provided by FanDuel Sportsbook – last updated May 23 at 10 a.m. ET; access USA TODAY Sports Scores and Sports Betting Odds hub for a full list.

  • 10.5 wins: (Over: +104 | Under: -128)

According to Sharp Football Analysis, which based its calculations off projected win totals, the Lions have the 21st-toughest schedule in the NFL. Their implied line of 10.5 wins is exactly the same as projections by most sportsbooks.

After perusing the schedule for Detroit, I don’t see how it doesn’t fly over this win total in 2024. There’s a high likelihood that it will be 5-0 or 4-1 before it even begins its divisional schedule in Week 7.

Weeks 9-12 will be its toughest stretch, hitting the road for 3 games over 4 weeks, 2 of which will be against 2023 playoff teams. The Lions will likely wrap up the NFC North with 3 divisional matchups in their last 5 regular-season games.

The Lions open up the season on Sunday Night Football against Stafford in the Motor City. That’s one of their 5 prime-time games, including their traditional Thanksgiving day game.

I’ve got Detroit winning at least 12 games once again in 2024, which means I’m definitely betting the LIONS OVER 10.5 WINS (+104). They should win the NFC North and will likely have the No. 1 or 2 seed in the playoffs.

Lions Super Bowl odds

  • +1300 (bet $100 to win $1300)

The Lions are tied with the Cincinnati Bengals for the 4th-best odds to win the Super Bowl, only behind the 49ers (+550), Kansas City Chiefs (+600), and Baltimore Ravens (+950).

It seems like everything is falling into place for the Lions to make a deep run in the postseason. From their relatively easy schedule to the huge chip on their shoulder after coming so close to the Super Bowl last season.

Detroit lost in the NFC Championship game 34-31 to the 49ers after blowing a 17-point halftime lead. While that loss was painful, this young team will be mentally stronger this season.

I have the Lions representing the NFC in the Super Bowl but coming up short in the big game. Despite that, I actually like putting a small wager on the LIONS TO WIN THE SUPER BOWL (+1300).

Will Lions make the playoffs?

  • Yes -205 | No +164

Things would have to go completely off the rails for this Detroit Lions team to not make the playoffs. There is just too much talent on both sides of the ball not to get into the postseason.

Despite my confidence in Detroit to make the playoffs, risking 2 times your potential return and tying that money up for several months just doesn’t make any sense. There are other NFL futures with better value.

PASS.

Odds to win NFC North Division

  • Lions +145 (bet $100 to win $145)
  • Packers +185 (bet $100 to win $185)
  • Bears +320 (bet $100 to win $500)
  • Vikings +900 (bet $100 to win $900)

The common belief around the league is that the Lions’ primary challenger for the NFC North crown will be the Green Bay Packers, who turned a lot of heads in last year’s playoffs. They embarrassed the Cowboys 48-32 in Dallas and lost 24-21 to the 49ers on a field goal with 1:07 remaining. QB Jordan Love seems to be the real deal.

The Bears will make some noise in the division with No. 1 overall pick QB Caleb Williams, who Chicago surrounded with talent this offseason. It added RB D’Andre Swift via free agency and traded for veteran WR Keenan Allen. The Bears also drafted WR Rome Odunze with the No. 9 overall pick to stack the deck for the rookie.

The odd team out in this division will be the Minnesota Vikings, who let QB Kirk Cousins walk out the door to Atlanta in the offseason. That leaves All-Pro WR Justin Jefferson with huge question marks, as either QB Sam Darnold or rookie QB J.J. McCarthy will be trying to get him the ball.

Again, it seems to line up for Detroit, which is why I’ll definitely bet the LIONS (+145) TO WIN THE NFC NORTH.

Lions odds to win NFC

  • +600 (bet $100 to win $600)

According to the odds, there’s basically 1 team to beat in the NFC, the 49ers (+250). But I don’t believe they should be such heavy favorites to go back to the Super Bowl.

Everyone loves this 49ers team, and with good reason, but I believe this Lions team is built better than San Francisco. This offseason, Holmes focused his attention on keeping the Lions’ key pieces and improving the weakest part of the team.

The 49ers needed a furious 2nd-half comeback to beat the Lions in the NFC Championship in San Francisco. Detroit is closer to this team than the market is giving it credit for, which is why I love taking the LIONS TO WIN THE NFC (+600).
