Texas A&M’s 2024 recruiting class is still growing, as several high-priority prospects are nearing their commitment dates, including five-star athlete Terry Bussey and four-star Edge Nigel Smith. Regarding the remaining uncommitted five-star prospects, defensive lineman Aydin Breland is currently the No.1-ranked player in California, entering his senior season at the prestigious Mater Dei (CA).
Coming off a busy summer filled with visits, Breland, who received his offer from Texas A&M back in October of last year, made his way to College Station for an official visit on June 2, amid three straight official visits to Miami (June 9), Georgia (June 16), and Oregon (June 23).
In a recent interview with On3 Recruiting Director Chad Simmons, Breland revealed that he is much closer to making a commitment decision than many of us assumed. By the looks of it, the Aggies are clearly in the mix.
“I am looking to cut my list down one more time, then locking in a commitment date. I don’t have any visits planned before I make my decision and I can say it is coming soon.”
Standing at 6-5 and 290 pounds, Breland recorded 24 tackles, 10.4 tackles for loss, and four sacks during his 2022 junior season at Mater Dei, just scratching the surface of his enormous potential in the future. Breland’s length, speed, and tremendous power, combined with his position versatility, slightly mirrors current Texas A&M freshman DL David Hicks Jr, who is poised to receive substantial playtime in 2023.
According to 247Sports, Breland is currently positioned as the 6th-ranked player in the 2024 cycle, the 2nd-ranked defensive lineman, and the No.1-ranked player in California.
