The Portland Trail Blazers (1-3) and Detroit Pistons (2-2) meet Wednesday at Little Caesars Arena. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET. Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Trail Blazers vs. Pistons odds and make our expert NBA picks and predictions.

Season series: First meeting; Blazers won series 2-0 in 2022-23

The Trail Blazers snapped a 3-game losing streak Monday with a 99-91 win in Toronto, also picking up their 1st cover of the season in 4 outings. The Blazers have had difficulty scoring points, averaging just 98.0 PPG across the past 3 outings, hitting the Under in 2 of those contests.

The Pistons suffered a 124-112 setback against the Oklahoma City Thunder on the road Monday, halting a modest 2-game winning streak and 3-0 against-the-spread (ATS) run to start the season. The Over has cashed in the past 2 outings after the Under hit in the 1st 2 outings.

Portland has won 7 straight meetings in this series since Detroit last won 99-90 on March 30, 2019, at home. The Blazers have covered 6 straight in the series, too.

Trail Blazers at Pistons picks and predictions

Prediction

Trail Blazers 110, Pistons 104

Moneyline

The TRAIL BLAZERS (+125) are worth a look as short ‘dogs on the road in Motown.

Portland has won 7 in a row in this series, but obviously that was prior to the team shipping G Damian Lillard out of the Rose City. Still, the Blazers head into this one with a little steam after upending the Raptors in Toronto as 10-point underdogs.

Against the spread

The TRAIL BLAZERS +3.5 (-110) are a decent play if you can’t pick them straight up. Portland has covered 6 in a row in this series.

The Pistons -3.5 (-110) opened the season with a 3-0 ATS run, but they were tripped up in OKC in the 1st meeting against a Western Conference team. Detroit has lost 5 straight against teams from the West, including a 110-104 loss to Portland on March 6 last season.

Over/Under

UNDER 214.5 (-110) is the lean, ever so slightly.

The Blazers have scored 99 or fewer points in 3 consecutive outings, cashing the Under in 2 of those contests. Portland’s D has held opponents to 102 or fewer points in 2 of the past 3, as well.

Detroit has hit the Over in the past 2 contests, but the defense has clamped down on the opposition, holding teams to 103 or fewer points in 3 of 4 games overall.

On this day: Auerbach, Cousy, Cooper, Rondo, Fox, Walker debut with Celtics

On this day, Celtics greats Red Auerbach, Bob Cousy, Chuck Cooper, Rajon Rondo, Rick Fox, and Antoine Walker all debuted for Boston.

On this day in Boston Celtics history, Hall of Fame coach and general manager Arnold “Red” Auerbach coached his first regular-season game with the storied franchise. Recently hired by the team’s owner Walter Brown on the advice of local sports journalists after stints coaching with the Tri-Cities Blackhawks (now, Atlanta Hawks), the defunct Washington Capitols NBA franchise, and — as an assistant coach at the college level — the Duke Blue Devils.

The game was thankfully not auspicious for the Boston icon’s future with the team in the coming years, with Auerbach’s Celtics falling 107-84 to the (then) Fort Wayne (Indiana) Pistons (who are now based in Detroit).

Auerbach was not the only Celtics legend making his debut that day.

Rafa Matos, No. 88 3-Dimensional Services Group Ford Mustang (2020, 2021)

Three drivers will be making their series debuts this weekend at COTA. Brandon Westenberg in the No. 93 Esses Racing Audi R8 GT4 will be racing for the first time in the GT class in the Western Championship, while Tyler Gonzalez in the No. 60 Nitro Motorsports Ford Mustang and Ethan Barker in the No. 07 Concierge Motor Sports Chevrolet Camaro will make their debuts in the Big Machine Vodka SPIKED Coolers TA2 Series.

This weekend, two drivers will be pulling double duty, competing in both the TA/XGT/SGT/GT race and Big Machine Vodka SPIKED Coolers TA2 Series race just over an hour apart. JC Meynet will make his first-ever start in the Western Championship’s Big Machine Vodka SPIKED Coolers TA2 Series in the No. 28 Killer Shrimp/Bar-B-Ranch Racing Chevrolet Camaro before vying for the Western Championship’s GT title in the No. 28 Killer Shrimp Racing Chevrolet Corvette. Michael LaPaglia will be racing for the TA2 title in the Western Championship in his No. 31 Papini’s Garage/F.A.S.T. Auto Ford Mustang and then hit the track in the TA/XGT/SGT/GT race to compete in SGT for the Western Championship.

Nine drivers in Sunday’s races call the Lone Star State home. The closest to home at COTA are Gar Robinson and Barry Boes from Austin, and Marc Austin from Buda.

Ethan Barker, No. 07 Concierge Motor Sports Chevrolet Camaro (Houston)
Barry Boes, No. 32 BCR/Accio Data Chevrolet Camaro (Austin)

National championships decided
All four of the TA/XGT/SGT/GT class championships were clinched in the series’ last outing at VIRginia International Raceway last month. TA’s Chris Dyson in the No. 16 GYM WEED Ford Mustang clinched his third-consecutive title, putting him in an echelon of just six drivers with three or more championships, and three drivers with three or more consecutive titles.

XGT’s Danny Lowry in the No. 43 Bennett/BridgeHaul/PitBoxes.com Mercedes AMG GT3 clinched his first-career Pro championship after earning the SGT Pro/Am title and Rookie of the Year in 2022.

Lee Saunders in the No. 84 LandSearch LLC Dodge Viper claimed his third-career SGT championship while easily maintaining his record as the winningest SGT driver of all time with 21 victories.

Finally, Michael Attaway in the 91 Bennett/BridgeHaul/Pitboxes.com Audi R8 clinched the GT championship, claiming his first Trans Am title in his third year of competition in the series.

Western Championship title up for grabs
As of the penultimate race of the season at Spring Mountain Motorsports Ranch two weeks ago, two Western Championship titles have been clinched. Steve Goldman in the No. 13 LIG Racing Chevrolet Corvette has sealed the deal in the TA class with three victories in four starts, while Will Rodgers in the No. 32 Chris Evans Race Cars & Design Ford Mustang has earned the XGT title after winning every race he entered this season, with three of them being overall wins in the all-class events.

However, one heavily-contested title is still up for grabs for the Western Championship in the TA/XGT/SGT/GT race. JC Meynet (No. 28 Killer Shrimp Racing Chevrolet Corvette) and David Hampton (No. 14 AR Motorsports Porsche Cayman GT4 CS) are both mathematically eligible to win the GT championship. Meynet currently holds the lead with a 37-point advantage over Hampton after earning four wins and six podiums in seven starts. Hampton has three wins this season and has finished on the podium in every race he has competed in this year.

One name on this weekend’s entry list will be extremely familiar, despite being absent from the paddock for two years. 2015 and 2017 Big Machine Vodka SPIKED Coolers TA2 Series National champion Gar Robinson will pilot the No. 74 74 Ranch Resort Chevrolet Camaro in his first-career start in the TA class driving for Riley Technologies. Robinson has previously started 44 races in TA2, and last competed at COTA in 2021. Robinson, who is a native of Austin, Texas, has one victory at the track, winning the TA2 race in 2018.

CD Racing comes into COTA for the third-consecutive year with a championship wrapped up, with Chris Dyson in the No. 16 GYM WEED Ford Mustang having clinched his third TA title at VIR last month. The team also enters the weekend with victories in the last two season finales at the track.

In 2021, Matthew Brabham in the No. 20 GYM WEED Ford Mustang took the checkered flag while subbing for Dyson in the final race of the year, and Dyson visited GYM WEED Winners Circle just last year to close off his championship effort. Brabham returns to the Trans Am Series after a brief absence to end the season, giving the team two opportunities to secure their third-consecutive win at the track. A win by Dyson this weekend would also move him up to fourth on the all-time TA class win list, tying him with Ernie Francis Jr. at 24.

After nearly two seasons of competing in the Trans Am Heritage class, 1985 and 1986 TA champion Wally Dallenbach returns to the TA class. This weekend, he will get behind the wheel of the No. 4 Ultimate Headers/Weaver Racing Dodge Challenger.

This weekend’s race will host the biggest GT field that the series has seen all season, with 12 cars taking the green flag in the class on Sunday. This weekend’s entry list consists of four GT drivers in the National Championship, six competitors in the Western Championship and two Pro/Am competitors.

Last year, Thomas Merrill (No. 26 Bennett/HP Tuners/Cope Race Cars Ford) captured the Big Machine Vodka SPIKED Coolers TA2 Series championship against all odds, earning every possible point by winning both the Motul Pole Award and the race, tying Rafa Matos (No. 88 3-Dimensional Services Group Ford Mustang) in the points and claiming his first-career title in a tiebreaker. Merrill has the opportunity to come from behind to win the championship once again this year, although the odds aren’t quite as stacked against him.

Brent Crews (No. 70 Franklin Road/Mobil 1/Nitro Motorsports Ford Mustang) had the opportunity to clinch the class and become the youngest champion in Trans Am history by finishing fourth or better at VIRginia International Raceway last month, but disaster struck when a cut tire resulted in a crash which caused crippling damage to his car, relegating him to a 32nd-place finish. The result shrunk Crews’ lead from 132 points going into VIR down to just 45 points. With 110 points available in a weekend, the championship race is now wide open heading into COTA. While perfection is not required by either driver, both Crews and Merrill will undoubtedly be aiming for it. We won’t know until the checkered flag waves whether Crews will earn his first-career Trans Am championship at just 15 years, seven months and six days old, or if Merrill will win his second-consecutive title.

While the National Championship is down to two drivers vying for the title, the Western Championship has four drivers mathematically eligible to win the championship in TA2. Brody Goble (No. 69 Brown Bros. Ford/Cortex Racing Ford Mustang) took over the points lead for the first time this season when he won the race at Spring Mountain Motorsports Ranch two weeks ago, leading Michael LaPaglia (No. 31 Papini’s Garage/F.A.S.T. Auto Ford Mustang) by just 22 points. Greg Tolson, who was leading the points going into Spring Mountain, suffered a mechanical issue early in the race and earned a DNF, dropping him down to third in the standings. Not entered this weekend, Tolson will not compete for the championship, but Tim Lynn (No. 71 RoofOptions Ford Mustang), who sits fourth in the points, a distant 95 points behind Goble, remains in contention. Regardless of who emerges with the title, it will be the first Trans Am title for Goble, LaPaglia or Lynn.

EB Research Partnership donation
Road Race Ministries, the organization that serves as Trans Am’s chaplains, will be making a $5,000 donation to the EB Research Partnership on behalf of Darin Mock (No. 51 EB Research Partnership Ford Mustang) and Boris Said Jr. (No. 83 3-Dimensional Services Group Chevrolet Camaro) this weekend at COTA. 21-year-old Mock and his father both suffer from Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB), a hereditary disease in which individuals lack critical proteins that bind the skin’s two layers together. Without these proteins, the skin tears apart, blisters, and shears off. Mock has been partnered with the EB Research Partnership (EBRP) this year and has been working to raise awareness and funds to find a cure. Road Race Ministries’ donation to EBRP comes as a result of a contribution made to the chaplains by Said Jr.’s father, Boris Said, to fund their 2024 ministry. With the extra funding, the organization was able to share some of the donation to give back to Mock’s cause.

After a potentially season-ending crash at Watkins Glen International, 14-year-old Ben Maier returns to the track for the season finale with a new team. Maier will make his debut in the No. 80 Gel Blaster/Nitro Motorsports Ford Mustang and will be paired with his new crew chief, Daytona 500 winner Derrike Cope.

Maier comes into COTA fresh off a victory in his Spec Miata at VIR, and will follow up the Trans Am season finale by competing in a Can-Am Side-By-Side at the Nitrocross Racing event in Phoenix at Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park the following weekend.

2022 champion Thomas Merrill comes into this week’s race following a warmup for the final race of 2023. Merrill competed in the Porsche Carrera Cup season finale at COTA with Nolasport just two weeks ago.

Best World Series bets: Five Game 5 prop bet picks and predictions

Highlighting 5 World Series Game 5 prop bet predictions as the Texas Rangers visit the Arizona Diamondbacks Wednesday.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Texas Rangers and Arizona Diamondbacks meet for Game 5 of the 2023 World Series on Wednesday at Chase Field. After taking a look at BetMGM Sportsbook’s MLB odds, here are the 5 best World Series Game 5 prop bets to cash in on among SportbookWire’s MLB picks and predictions.

The Rangers outslugged the Diamondbacks by an 11-7 count in Game 4 on Tuesday night, and Texas is now on the precipice of its 1st-ever championship. The Rangers have posted a ridiculous 10-0 record in these playoffs on the road.

In an even stranger twist, Arizona has actually outscored Texas 22-21 in the 1st 4 games of this series, thanks to a 9-1 blowout win in Game 2 in Arlington. The Over has cashed in 3 of the 1st 4 games of the series.

The Rangers collected 11 hits in Game 4, including 3 doubles, 1 triple and 3 home runs, including 2 extra-base hits apiece from 2B Marcus Semien and SS Corey Seager.

Speaking of Seager, he actually has just 4 hits across 17 at-bats in this series, which is a .235 average. But he has had a flare for the dramatic, posting a 2B, 3 HR and 6 RBIs, including a 9th-inning HR in Game 1 to turn the tide and a rocket in the 2nd inning of Game 4 to set off a big inning.

Rangers RHP Nathan Eovaldi OVER 4.5 strikeouts (+105)

It’s hard to believe you can get this at plus-money, but ’tis true.

Eovaldi heads into this potential championship clincher with 30 2/3 IP under his belt across 5 starts in the postseason. He has recorded 7 or more K’s in 4 of those outings, including the epic Game 1 in Arlington. The veteran didn’t bring his best stuff to the mound that evening, allowing 5 ER, 6 H and 1 BB across 4 2/3 IP, but he still racked up 8 K’s.

He was good for 132 K’s in 144 IP in the regular season, and he had 3 or fewer K’s in 6 of his final 8 starts from July 6 to Sept. 29. Not really known as a strikeout pitcher, he has been amped up for his return to the postseason. It doesn’t seem like he’ll have much trouble getting to 5 K’s against the free-swinging Snakes.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3012″ ]

Diamondbacks SS Geraldo Perdomo OVER 0.5 hits (+130)

Perdomo went 1-for-3 with a single, a walk and a run scored in Game 4, and he has collected exactly 1 single in each of his 4 games in the World Series so far. At plus-money, Perdomo is worth a roll of the dice to collect at least 1 knock in Game 5, most likely batting out of the 9-hole.

Rangers C/DH Mitch Garver OVER 0.5 strikeouts (-250)

We went with a plus-money prop on the 1st 2 choices, so we’ll eat some chalk on this one. Garver whiffed 3 times in Game 4, and he has struck out 5 times in 15 at-bats in this World Series. Garver was hit in the ribs by a pitch in Game 7 against the Houston Astros, and he just hasn’t been himself in this World Series.

He slashed .270/.370/.500 with 19 HR in 87 games in the regular season, while slashing .295/.368/.529 heading into this series. The injury has really taken the wind out of his sails, and he is a good bet to whiff at least once in Game 5.

Rangers OF Leody Taveras OVER 0.5 walks (+175)

This is a tasty play worthy of your consideration. Taveras was issued a free pass in Game 4, and he had 2 BB back in Game 1. In the postseason, he has walked 10 total times in 16 games. At plus-money, Taveras is a strong option in Game 5.

Rangers SS Corey Seager OVER 2.5 H+R+RBI (+110)

You really didn’t think we weren’t going to make a Seager pick after that big intro above, did you?

Seager is a good play at plus-money to total a combined 3 or more hits, runs and/or RBIs in Game 5. He cashed the Over with each of his homers in the series, and the only time he went Under in this series was when he took the collar with a strikeout in 4 AB in the Game 2 loss.

If you’re not familiar how this bet works, you would win with 3 singles, a single, a run scored and an RBI, etc. You need any combination of hits, runs scored or RBI to total 3 or more for a winning ticket.

Should Boston Celtics fans be worried about the team’s bench?

The majority of the bench players are minimum guys or those who have come up from the G league ranks, and these players have yet to show any stranglehold over their positions.

The Boston Celtics’ bench performance in recent games is raising concerns among fans, despite the team’s victories in those contests. With the ball club potentially unable to sustain 100-point games from their starters all season long, and no obvious stand-out performers emerging from the bench who might be called on to fill in for players when hurt, some suggest that even a couple of starter injuries could severely destabilize the team.

The majority of the bench players are minimum guys or those who have come up from the G league ranks, and these players have yet to show any stranglehold over their positions in Boston’s rotation — or really any hold on them all. However, the Celtics’ management is expected to exercise patience and provide these players with opportunities to prove their worth.

The hosts of the CLNS Media “Garden Report” podcast recently sat down to talk over the shaky Boston bench depth.

Take a look at the clip embedded above to hear what they had to say.

Los Angeles Clippers at Los Angeles Lakers odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Wednesday’s Los Angeles Clippers at Los Angeles Lakers odds and lines, with NBA expert picks, predictions and best bets.

[gambcom-standard rankid=”3011″ ]

The Los Angeles Clippers (3-1) face off against the Los Angeles Lakers (2-2) Wednesday. Tip-off from crypto.com Arena is set for 10 p.m. ET (ESPN). Let’s analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Clippers vs. Lakers odds and make our expert NBA picks and predictions.

Season series: First meeting; Clippers won 4-0 last season

Los Angeles added yet another future Hall of Famer Tuesday by trading for G James Harden from the Philadelphia 76ers. I am interested to see what starting lineup coach Tyronn Lue will put out. Both G Russell Westbrook and Harden are more ball-dominant guards, and the success of this team hinges on what their minutes together will look like and whether or not Westbrook will go back to more of a bench role. Harden is not expected to play in this game, but it is possible.

The Lakers escaped with a 106-103 win Monday vs. the Orlando Magic, failing to cover as 3.5-point home favorites. F Anthony Davis and G D’Angelo Russell shined in the win for Los Angeles. Davis finished with 26 points and 19 rebounds, while Russell scored 28 with 8 assists while shooting 10 of 14 from the field.

Clippers at Lakers picks and predictions

Prediction

Clippers 108, Lakers 102

Moneyline

LEAN CLIPPERS (+170).

The Clippers have been a team that has had a surprisingly solid start to the season offensively, and if all the stars are healthy, that should continue here. This is a Lakers squad that has had no real consistency offensively to start the year, and that will have to change if this team plans to beat a Clippers team that is 11-0 in the last 11 matchups with the Lakers. Davis has been on a tear since struggling in the season opener vs. Denver, and his play is the only thing giving the Lakers a chance in this matchup.

Against the spread

BET CLIPPERS +5.5 (-110).

This Clippers team has looked very good to start the season but has not played against any real competition. The Lakers have been very inconsistent to start the season, especially their role players, and many fans are questioning the abilities of coach Darvin Ham. Look for the Clippers to keep this one close as the Lakers do not have a true identity yet and still have a lot to figure out offensively.

Over/Under

BET UNDER 225.5 (-110).

Neither of these teams are known to possess 1 of the top offenses in the NBA, and that trend should continue here. The Lakers have been a bad 3-point shooting team to start the season, only averaging 9.5 makes from that range a game, and that is often times a key to lower-scoring offenses in today’s NBA. The Lakers have also hit the Under in 3 of their 4 games this year.

The 2011 Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway marked Ricky Stenhouse’s debut in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series. Substituting for Roush Racing teammate Trevor Bayne, Stenhouse finished 11th in the Wood Brothers Racing Ford.

398 races later, Ricky Stenhouse now has 399 NASCAR Cup starts to his name and the Tennesseean will make that start number 400 this Sunday when he climbs into the No. 47 JTG Daugherty Racing Ford.

“400 starts? That’s wild,” said Stenhouse. “That’s pretty cool. It seems like just yesterday that I made my first Cup start back in 2011 and, man, that just seems like such a long time ago. When you start adding it all up, it really is a very long time ago. I’m just definitely blessed to still be in the sport and to still be racing at a high level and I feel like we still have a lot left to accomplish and I’m looking forward to 400 more. Who knows?”

For the 2023 Cup season, Mike Kelley was brought into the JTG Daugherty Racing fold to serve as crew chief for Stenhouse and the No. 47 team. Previously Stenhouse’s crew chief in 2011 and 2012 when the duo won back-to-back Xfinity titles, Kelley and his driver sketched out a goal of a top 15 average finish in ‘23. As of Martinsville last Sunday, Stenhouse has maintained a 17.7 average. His take on the arithmetic?

“I’m pumped with the way this year went,” he said. “I’m a little disappointed in the playoffs; I feel like we’ve had good speed and we just haven’t executed. There were a couple of off races on my end and couple off races on the team end. There are definitely things to work on this approaching off-season, but nothing that we are not capable of fixing and I think that’s the beauty of where we are at right now. We’ve got a lot of work to do and we’ve got a lot of room for improvement, but it is lot of stuff that we can control ourselves. That is the thing that I’m most excited about going into the off-season.

“We had a decent run at Martinsville last weekend. We had a couple car issues there towards the end of the race with some brakes and some fuel and stuff that cost us a better finish than what we had. But we ran good there towards the end of that race and we made our car better. Hopefully we can go to Phoenix this weekend and really have a strong run. It is a similar track to Gateway, and we had a real strong run at Gateway this year. We’re hoping that we can cap off the season with another strong run at Phoenix.”

An improvement in in-race execution, as well as a boost in internal team confidence has also helped Stenhouse and the No. 47 team climb up the timing and scoring monitors.

“I think we have all improved with execution and even team confidence,” said Stenhouse. “I think we all know that there is still a lot left there for us to get. We all believe in each other. We want to just try to make sure we do all the little things that we can control right. That’s something that I don’t feel like we’ve done a good job of late in the season. In the beginning and the middle part of the season we did that really, really well. We just got off just a little bit on just executing.”

Stenhouse believes Kelley’s influence and effect on the team have been major positives.

“Mike definitely brings a different mindset to a race team,” said Stenhouse. “He’s been around race cars his whole life. He knows how to work on them and he knows what makes them go fast, but you also need engineers and different people to come up with different setups to be fast, and I believe that Mike lets everybody at our company take charge of their role.

“Everybody at this level can do the job that they’re hired to do and they’re all really good at it, and it is just about how you get that last little bit out of your employees or you driver or whatever to be a little bit better than everybody else.”

Stenhouse, Kelley and the No. 47 race team are well aware that being a single-car operation calls for a remarkable amount of teamwork, cooperation and resourcefulness.

“Next year, we will be the only single car out there,” said Stenhouse. “The last single car team just got bought. We’ll be the last one standing. That comes with its benefits and it also comes with its struggles, but I like what we are doing and the improvement we made from 2022 to 2023 was pretty big. If we make another small step in 2024, we’ll be right in the mix.”

“Honestly, it’s all about diving into each race come 2024. My engineers are going to dive into the setups and try to make sure we get those better. For me, obviously I’m going to hit the gym and keep training there. I want to try and make sure that I’m doing everything I can. With my crew chief Mike Kelley, we also want to go back through the races where we didn’t execute well. We’ve already talked about it, but we just want to kind of go over it all again this off-season and come up with a better gameplan for each race so that we are not doing it the week of. I think things like that will help us.”

With 11 wins this season, including two in the series’ last outing at VIRginia International Raceway (VIR), Callum Hedge (No. 17 Crosslink Kiwi Motorsport Ligier JS F3) continues to lead the championship standings. However, the battle isn’t as cut and dry as it once appeared—in fact, Hedge failed to score any points in the series’ most recent race after being forced to retire early from Round 15. With three runner-up finishes at VIR, Ryan Shehan (No. 66 Crosslink Kiwi Motorsport Ligier JS F3) kept his championship hopes alive, leaving Hedge with only a 51-point advantage going into COTA.

Cooper Becklin (No. 19 Crosslink Kiwi Motorsport Ligier JS F3) was eliminated from championship contention at VIR, but the Oregonian still had a weekend to remember as he secured his first-career win in Round 15. The victory, paired with two third-place results, kept Becklin just 42 points behind Shehan. Oliver Westling (No. 1 JENSEN Ligier JS F3) remains the fourth and final driver with a chance of finishing inside the top three in the point standings. The New Jersey Motorsports Park (NJMP) Round 10 winner ranks fourth, just 57 points behind Becklin.

Jake Bonilla (No. 20 Crosslink Kiwi Motorsport Ligier JS F3) will join powerhouse Crosslink Kiwi Motorsport to make his FR Americas debut this weekend at COTA. Bonilla has been testing the Ligier JS F3 car with Crosslink Kiwi Motorsport this year, and earned two podiums—including a win—in the car during a Formula Pro USA Western Championship event at Sonoma Raceway in September. Previously, the San Antonian competed in F4 U.S. during the 2020 and 2021 race seasons.

Manuel Roza (No. 12 Crosslink Kiwi Motorsport Ligier JS F3) and Cole Kleck (No. 11 Speed Factory Ligier JS F3) will both return to the FR Americas paddock just in time for the 2023 season finale. With neither driver having competed since Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in June, Roza will return to his traditional No. 12 Crosslink Kiwi Motorsport entry, while Kleck joins Speed Factory for the final event of the year.

Austinite Ryan Shehan will join three fellow Texans racing at Circuit of The Americas this weekend. Cole Kleck and Jake Bonilla can carpool from their San Antonio homes, while Max Hewitt (No. 39 Crosslink Kiwi Motorsport Ligier JS F3) will have the longest trip to make of the “local” drivers, with a 150-mile journey from Houston.

Hayden Bowlsbey (No. 22 Save22 Ligier JS F3) earned his first-career podium in the series’ most recent outing at VIR. A major accident during the closing laps at NJMP required Bowlsbey to rebuild his car during the 10-week break between events. With the help of his friends and family, both the driver and car were ready to race when the lights went out at VIR. Bowlsbey first entered F4 U.S. competition in 2019, and moved up to FR Americas with his family-owned IGY6 Motorsports in 2022. With 17 previous top 10s, Bowlsbey’s third-place result in Round 15 marked his first-career FR Americas podium—and the first podium finish for IGY6 Motorsports.

With 11 victories this season, Callum Hedge is currently tied with last year’s FR Americas champion, Raoul Hyman, for third on the all-time wins list. Another victory this weekend would break that tie and solidify Hedge’s standing as the third-winningest driver in FR Americas history. Kyle Kirkwood and Linus Lundqvist, both current competitors in INDYCAR, are tied for the most wins in FR Americas with 15 victories apiece.

FR Americas Scholarship on the line
The battle for the 2023 F4 U.S. drivers’ championship title is down to just three drivers. Patrick Woods-Toth (No. 27 Crosslink Kiwi Motorsport Ligier JS F4) currently leads the championship charge, while Michael Costello (No. 19 Jay Howard Driver Development / CSU One Cure / Lucas Oil / LHP Ligier JS F4) and Titus Sherlock (No. 31 Crosslink Kiwi Motorsport Ligier JS F4) are tied for second, 66.5 points behind Woods-Toth. Alex Berg, who is currently ranked fourth in points, will miss this weekend’s event as he competes in England’s Formula Ford Festival with Team Canada. His absence leaves Jesse Lacey (No. 16 Crosslink Kiwi Motorsport Ligier JS F4), hot off his first F4 U.S. win at VIR, to contend with Daniel Cará (No. 10 Tenuta Foppa & Ambrosi Ligier JS F4) and Augie Soto-Schirripa (No. 24 International Motorsport Ligier JS F4), who earned two wins during the VIR race weekend. All four drivers remain mathematically eligible to contend for a top-three finish in the final point standings.

At the conclusion of the season, the 2023 F4 U.S. champion will be given the opportunity to move to FR Americas in 2024 with support from Ligier Automotive, Hankook Tires and Parella Motorsports Holdings. In addition, the champion will also receive $25,000 from Honda Performance Development, along with several other prizes.

Five drivers will be making their F4 U.S. debut this weekend at Circuit of The Americas. Ariel Elkin (No. 18 International Motorsport Ligier JS F4) joins the field from the F4 Italian Championship where the Israeli driver competed earlier this year. American Barrett Wolfe (No. 13 Doran Motorsports Group Ligier JS F4) and Australian Daniel Quimby (No. 42 Doran Motorsports Group Ligier JS F4) both move to F4 U.S. after competing in the Formula Pro USA Championships earlier this year. Meanwhile, Zhanbin Jia (No. 6 Jay Howard Driver Development / CSU One Cure / Lucas Oil / LHP Ligier JS F4) will move to F4 U.S. after making his debut in the SpeedTour Formula Development Series just last month at VIR. Pablo Josè Benites (No. 8 Scuderia Buell Ligier JS F4) also used SpeedTour Formula Development to gain experience in his Ligier JS F4 this season and will move up to F4 U.S. competition at COTA.

Four drivers competing in this weekend’s event hail from the state of Texas. Daniel Cará will have the shortest drive to COTA, traveling 150 miles from his home in The Woodlands, Texas. Meanwhile, a trio of drivers will travel from their homes around the greater Dallas area to compete in this weekend’s event—Dallas-based Jett Bowling (No. 02 Crosslink Kiwi Motorsport Ligier JS F4), Terrell, Texas’ Christopher Parrish (No. 83 Save22 Ligier JS F4), and Titus Sherlock from Prosper, Texas.

Several F4 U.S. competitors notched important career accomplishments during the series’ last round at VIR. Augie Soto-Schirripa earned the most points throughout the weekend with his two wins, while Jesse Lacey earned his first-career F4 U.S. victory. Kekai Hauanio (No. 29 N.E. Where Transport Ligier JS F4) impressed with a weekend where he continued to better his record for career-best finish—first earning a fifth, then a third, and finally a second-place result. Hannah Greenemeier (No. 74 Crosslink Kiwi Motorsport Ligier JS F4) also recorded a career-best finish with her sixth-place result in Round 14. Luciano Martinez (No. 91 Scuderia Buell Ligier JS F4) earned his first-career pole to lead the field off the starting grid in Race 2 of the weekend.

Social media reacts quickly to firing of Raiders head coach Josh McDaniels, GM Dave Ziegler

Social media was quick to react to the late-night firings of Las Vegas Raiders head coach Josh McDaniels and GM Dave Ziegler.

The Las Vegas Raiders fired their head coach and general manager in the most Raiders ay possible — with the news breaking just after Halloween.

Josh McDaniels and Dave Ziegler, both hired in January, 2022, were relieved of their responsibilities by owner Mark Davis, and the team subsequently released a statement on social media.

McDaniels signed a six-year contract, which leaves the Raiders having to pay off the remaining four years. Per ESPN, linebackers coach Antonio Pierce will be interim head coach.

The Raiders were 3-5 this season, and 9-16 in McDaniels’ tenure. McDaniels, the New England Patriots’ longtime offensive coordinator, previously served as the Denver Broncos’ head coach in 2009 and 2010, putting together an 11-17 record before he was fired there.

Despite the late-night nature of the firings, social media was quick to respond, because social media never sleeps.
