The Buffalo Bills have rounded out Day 2 of the 2023 NFL draft by addressing their highlighted need.
The team selected Tulane linebacker Dorain Williams at No. 91 overall.
Following the departure of Tremaine Edmunds to the Chicago Bears in free agency, many projected the Bills would use one of their first two selections on the position. Instead, Buffalo waits and lands Williams in Round 3.
Standing 6-foot-1, the 228-pound defender is an athletic defender that can move on the field. While not the same massive frame as the 6-foot-5 Edmunds, Williams profiles as a linebacker that will have a shot at factoring in to replace him in the Bills lineup.
A three-year team captain, NFL.com raves about Williams’ pass-coverage talent in a zone defense like the Bills run. But his play recognition against the run needs to improve in the pros.
While potentially factoring into the replacement battle for Edmunds, Williams is not a prospect that will be handed the job. Keep the likes of last year’s third-round linebacker Terrel Bernard and veteran Tyrel Dodson, who re-signed this offseason, in mind for that competition as well.
A senior, Williams notched a ridiculous 132 tackles at Tulane last season, including 8.5 for loss, with five sacks, two interceptions, seven passes defended and two forced fumbles.
