The NBA Draft is fast approaching as in Thursday, June 23 and there is expected to be one, perhaps a few more Mountain West players drafted.

The most common player in the consensus top 100 and in draftable range is Freno State’s Orlando Robinson. The former Bulldogs forward has been shooting up draft boards and some think that he has the talent to be a first-round pick.

NBA Draft Net’s top 100 has Robinson at No. 37 which would put him just outside of first round contention. The two other players who make this list are Colorado State’s David Roddy who is No. 67 and a fringe player to be taken, and the third Mountain West player is UNLV’s Donovan Williams who is No. 70.

The latter two will definitely make it to a Summer League roster and fight for either an outright NBA roster sport, a G-League deal, or maybe even sign a two-way contract to allow for playing time and getting a taste at NBA life when called up.

The consensus mock draft from NBA Draft Net has Robinson going to the Charlotte Hornets at pick No. 45 and the Rams Roddy being selected at No. 53 to the Boston Celtics.

Roddy going to an established team that just went to the NBA Finals will allow him to learn from the Celtics players and not be pressured into a lot of playing time early in his career.

Robinson to the Hornets is interesting as they missed the playoffs this past year and are still in the market for a new head coach when Kenny Atkinson decided to back out of his agreement to remain an assistant with the world champion Golden State Warriors.

There are rumors and reports that uptempo coach Mike D’Antonio could take that job and if that is the case this could be a good fit for Robinson with that type of game plan.

The NBA Draft begins on Thursday, June 23 at 8 p.m. ET.
