The 2022 Major League Baseball first-year player draft is taking place July 17–19 in Los Angeles, California.
The draft is 20 rounds. Tennessee head coach Tony Vitello served as a Major League Baseball Network analyst during the first round.
Senior third baseman Trey Lipscomb was selected by Washington in the third round (No. 84 overall) Monday.
The 6-foot-1, 200-pound Lipscomb appeared in 66 games for the Vols in 2022. He totaled 22 home runs, 84 RBIs, 68 runs, 89 hits, 19 doubles, three triples, 26 walks and four stolen bases.
Lipscomb played at Urbana High School in Ijamsville, Maryland.
Tennessee won the Southeastern Conference East division for the second consecutive season, the league regular season and tournament championships in 2022.
