Overview
Before you go assuming Brenton Strange is going to be Penn State’s top tight end option in the offense in 2021, it may be best not to overlook the development of Theo Johnson. Johnson appeared in seven games for the Nittany Lions as a true freshman in 2020, including one start. Johnson had just four catches for 56 yards but he has shown his ability to be a potential breakout player in the Penn State offense.

Back in April, Johnson officially let former Nittany Lion Mike Gesicki that he had been dethroned in the Penn State weight room, with Johnson recording a faster 40-time than Gesicki’s previous record for tight ends.

The hard work is certainly paying off for Johnson in the offseason prep for the upcoming fall. He has been recognized as one of the top performers in offseason practices and workouts this summer, setting the tone for the season.

Expect to see Johnson in the offensive mix this season as an alternative to Strange. And perhaps we may even see some plays with both Strange and Johnson lining up on the field at the same time!
