2021 OL Remington Strickland chooses A&M over Texas, Oklahoma

On Friday, after receiving news that their center commit was re-opening his recruiting, the Longhorns lost on another 2021 target.

Not exactly the Friday that the Texas Longhorns were hoping to have just days head of the early signing period for the 2021 recruiting class. Following the decommitment of 2021 center, the Longhorns also lost out on one of their targets in Remington Strickland to their former rivals in Texas A&M. A rough day for offensive line coach Herb Hand.

Strickland is the No. 8 center in the country out of Fort Bend Christian Academy. He had his top schools set with A&M, Texas, the Oklahoma Sooners, and the Michigan Wolverines. Cross another name off the list for the Longhorns in the final days before national signing day.

In a statement on Twitter, Remington wrote about his decision.

First and foremost, I want to thank God for all of his gifts. He has given me life. Nothing is possible in life without him. I want to thank all of my family and friends for always supporting me through everything. I also want to say thank you to Coach Black, and all of my coaches at Fort Bend Christian for helping me become not only a better play, but a better man. This recruiting process has been such a blessing and it’s a great journey since [my] freshman year. I want to thank every coach that has recruited me these past 4 years and every school that offered me a scholarship. To all my supporters, I want to thank you. To all my haters, I’m even more thankful. This was a very difficult decision, but I have made up my mind. With that being said, I am excited to announce that I am committing to Texas A&M University.

After missing out on their top three targeted centers in the 2021 class, it has become more evident that the Texas Longhorns need much better than what Herb Hand can offer.
