The New York Giants have lost three straight games here in December but their postseason hopes remain alive. It is a distinct possibility the Giants could be eliminated at the latest possible moment, which wouldn’t be a bad thing. They’d get a top 10 selection in next year’s NFL Draft.

The Giants are 5-10 on the season as are the Detroit Lions, Carolina Panthers and Denver Broncos. If the season ended today, the Giants would hold the 8th overall selection in the draft.

By comparison, the Lions, based on their strength of schedule (.504) would select seventh. The Panthers have an SOS of .529 and would draft ninth. The Broncos who have a .567 SOS, would select 10th.

The Jacksonville Jaguars (1-14) has locked up the top pick in the draft. The New York Jets, despite winning two, will select second. They will be followed by the Miami Dolphins (with a pick from Houston), Atlanta Falcons, Cincinnati Bengals, Philadelphia Eagles and the four 5-10 teams.

The Giants could climb higher in the order with a loss this Sunday to the Cowboys.

This is fourth consecutive double-digit loss season for the Giants, which is a franchise record. The previous record was three from 1978-1980.
