Offensive Coaching Staff
Head coach: Tom Herman
Offensive coordinator: Mike Yurcich
Tom Herman is heading into this fourth season on the Forty Acres. He will be looking to go a perfect 4-0 in his bowl record. Last season Herman became the first coach in school history to win his first three bowl games, and he did it in his first three season. His career mark is currently 25-15 at Texas, overall Herman is 47-19. After a lackluster 7-5 regular season last year, there will be essentially a new staff. Herb Hand, Stan Drayton, Oscar Giles and Yancy McKnight are the only holdovers from last season’s staff.
Under the offensive direction of Mike Yurcich, the team added Andre Coleman (wide receivers) and Jay Boulware (tight ends/special teams). While Coleman was on the staff last season, he spent his time as an analyst before being promoted to assistant coach. The former NFL wide receiver spent five seasons in the league with the San Diego (now Los Angeles) Chargers, Seattle Seahawks and Pittsburgh Steelers. His biggest task this upcoming season is replacing the lost production of Collin Johnson and Devin Duvernay
Boulware returns home after spending seven seasons across the Red River in Norman, Oklahoma. As the special teams coordinator he will be asked to improved a unit that underperformed a season ago. He is also tasked with coaching the tight end group. The tight end hasn’t been a contributor in the passing game since Jermichael Finley caught 76 passes for 947 yards and five touchdowns between the 2006-07 seasons.
Herb Hand returns to coach the offensive line and Stan Drayton will coach the running backs once again. Hand will be working with two new starters on the offensive line on the right side of the line. Derek Kerstetter takes over in the middle for his senior year. Drayton has his hands full with a loaded backfield for the offense. Keaontay Ingram and Roschon Johnson return and now have top rated recruit Bijan Robinson in the mix.
