Rounds 2-3
In the next two rounds, the Bills go back to the defensive side of the ball. In the second round, do the Bills reach, though? Edge defender Khalid Kareem comes off the board to the Bills in CBS Sports’ mock:
No. 54 – Bills: DE Khalid Kareem
This is a bit high for Kareem as he might be lacking as an outside pass-rusher, but he’s so quick off the ball and has the length and strength to bully offensive linemen and blow up the pocket.
In the right system, Kareem could thrive in the NFL with his natural skills. But he’s viewed more of a positive run defender that needs some polishing as an outside the tackle pass rusher. That’s exactly where the Bills have have struggled in recent years and if Buffalo reached on Kareem, they’d have to be confident he’s the right guy for the guy for the job.
Rounding out Buffalo’s three picks in the CBS mock, an interesting player heads to the Bills in safety Kyle Dugger.
No. 86 – Bills: S Kyle Dugger
Dugger might be from a program you’ve never heard of, but he’s the type of player likely to turn heads during the predraft process. The Bills are set at safety, but Dugger can star on special teams while being developed at safety or linebacker.
That program is Lenoir-Rhyne, a DII program. With a name like that which you haven’t heard much of, Dugger would be very much a raw talent. But from the sounds of it, a hybrid linebacker-safety sounds much like Matt Milano. The current Bills linebacker is certainly a playmaker, but could Dugger also find his way to fill in for Lorenzo Alexander in a nickel-type role? Bringing him to the Bills could be an interesting option, and the Bills have proved they’re aren’t afraid to take a defender from a little known school in recent years.
