Good luck tackling him for 60 minutes.
The next player on our countdown of Mountain West football’s top players, running back Toa Taua, is the third member of the Nevada Wolf Pack to land on the list.
After being named the conference’s freshman of the year in 2018, Taua went out and established himself as one of the Mountain West’s most versatile offensive players, cementing his reputation as a tough runner (196 carries, third-most in the conference) and a reliable pass-catching outlet out of the backfield (30 catches, third-most among conference running backs) while also returning kicks late in the year. As a result, he finished 2019 with virtually the same number of all-purpose yards as the year before, 1,102 yards in all, while scoring six touchdowns.
Heading into his third year as the primary runner in Nevada’s pass-heavy attack, Taua remains one of the conference’s most important players. If he can remain as effective a closer as he was in 2019, when he averaged nearly five yards per carry in the fourth quarter, the Wolf Pack’s Air Raid Offense could emphatically shut the door on a number of opponents this fall.
