We have our four teams for Friday and we have our Cinderella.

The second day of the Mountain West Conference tournament was just as exciting as day one. And even though No. 9 Air Force and No. 7 New Mexico made things interesting in their Thursday matchups, the team with Cinderella hopes on Friday morning is the No. 11 seed Wyoming Cowboys.

After a first-half scare that saw San Diego State down 33-37 to Air Force. A lopsided second-half effort where the Aztecs outscored the Falcons 40-23 helped secure a 13-point win and ticket to the semifinals. There they will face the No. 5 seed Boise State Broncos after they took revenge for a senior night loss to UNLV last Wednesday in ExtraMile Arena with a 67-61 win over the Runnin’ Rebels in the Thomas & Mack Center Thursday afternoon. Led by RJ Williams’ 23 points and 15 rebounds the Broncos set themselves up for a semifinal matchup against the Aztecs

Game number two features the No. 2 Utah State Aggies who thanks to 29 points from their senior leader Sam Merrill avoided a near upset at the hands of No. 7 New Mexico. The Lobos were in the lead most of the night but a second half takeover by Merrill and a clutch last minute three by senior Diogo Brito sealed the win. The Aggies will see No. 11 Wyoming after an upset win over No. 3 Nevada on Thursday night in an encore performance of an upset win over No. 6 Colorado State on Wednesday.

Freshman guard Kwane Marble II led the way with 24 points, 4 rebounds and two assists and is averaging 22.0 PPG in his young Mountain West postseason career. This sets Allen Edward’s squad up for a late night (for the east coast) match up against Utah State who like the Wolf Pack struggled shooting the ball last night but rallied around their senior leader to get it done. Wyoming’s traditional scorers Hunter Maldonado and Jake Hendricks looked cold all night, but they’ll need all hands on deck to keep their championship hopes alive.
