2 Panthers land on ‘The PFF 101’ for 2022

A pair of Panthers found their way onto the PFF 101 for their efforts from the 2022 season.

The PFF 101 is out and a few Carolina Panthers, perhaps surprisingly, have made the cut.

On Friday, Pro Football Focus lead NFL analyst Sam Monson broke down the site’s list of the top 101 players from the 2022 campaign. And strictly judging off the performances from said 2022 campaign—postseason included—defensive tackle Derrick Brown made it into the top half at No. 46.

“One of a number of young, interior linemen to bring their game to a new level in 2022, Brown was on a tear this year, setting new career highs for pressures (40) and defensive stops (31),” Monson writes. “Additionally, he produced, by far, the best PFF grade (84.4) of his young career.”

Brown, who PFF also marked as Carolina’s most improved player this past season, recorded a career-high 67 combined tackles as well. That body of work set a new single-season franchise record for a defensive tackle, shattering Kawann Short’s mark of 55.

Then, a bit further down the list—all the way, in fact—sits cornerback Jaycee Horn. Horn, despite missing four games due to injury, ended up just getting in at No. 101.

“Horn has now allowed just 318 yards in his NFL career,” Monson notes. “He gave up a 52.6 passer rating this past season and did not let up a touchdown catch across 47 targets into his coverage.”

Overall, the second-year defender relinquished 310 yards on 28 catches over 47 targets. He also chalked up a team-leading three interceptions.
