After an exhilarating game against LSU in which the Aggies mounted a 19 point comeback, they now face the North Texas Mean Green. Playing their final game in the tropical paradise of Jamaica, Utah State will look to keep their record perfect.
Alphonso Anderson has been a pleasant surprise for Utah State this season. After a monstrous game against LSU, Anderson will seek to help his squad secure another victory. The junior transfer from North Idaho College has been averaging 14 points and nearly 7 rebounds a game. Keep an eye out for another big game from Anderson.
Senior guard Diogo Brito has played an important role for Utah State this season. He surprised the Aggie faithful with a nice dunk in the early minutes of the contest against LSU. Brito has been consistently good throughout his time as an Aggie. His consistent play, both on offense and defense, has been key to the 6-0 start this season. We’ll see if he can continue the contribute off the bench.
Sam Merrill and Justin Bean played well against LSU. Merrill netted 24 points and 8 assists while Bean added 14 points and 12 rebounds. It was Bean’s play that ignited the ferocious rally in the second half of the previous game, and it was Merrill’s three-pointer that secured the victory. Look for these two Aggies to continue their excellent play in their match against North Texas.
The Mean Green of North Texas have had a mediocre season up to this point. Their overall record shows 2-4. They are led by sophomore guard Umoja Gibson. Gibson is averaging nearly 13 points a game. The highlight of the Mean Green’s season came in a 3-point loss against #25 VCU. Apart from this near win over a quality team, the Mean Green have been rather lackluster.
North Texas will need to summon their inner Mean Green fighting machine if they want to keep it close. If Utah State plays half the game they are capable of, this should be an easy victory.
