January 3, 2003 will always be one of the best days in Alabama sports history for one reason: Nick Saban became the official head football coach at the University of Alabama.
When Saban took over, Alabama had just endured a 10 year span of a dry spell under Mike Dubose, Dennis Franchione, and Mike Shula and were desperate for hope. Little did they know at the time, Nick Saban would be the answer to their prayers.
Alabama went on to win their first national title in 2009. Two years later, they’d win another in 2011 and 2012.
It’s amazing.
Nick Saban has completely changed the program and culture at Alabama.
In his 13 years, he has:
- 5 national titles
- 7 SEC West titles
- 6 SEC Championship titles
- 157-23 (.872) record
- 12 consecutive years ranked No. 1
- 29 first-round draft picks
AND more.
It’s incredible.
Simply put, Nick Saban will always be one of the best coaches to coach at Alabama. And it all started 13 years ago TODAY.
