Vikings were playing it cool
Unfortunately it’s very rare to know what was going on behind the scenes of roster moves, especially trades. There’s a report that the Bills beat out offers made by the Redskins and Patriots for Diggs. It’s also suggested that things really heated up late last night after a few phone calls between Buffalo general manager Brandon Beane and the Vikings’ GM Rick Spielman.
But perhaps the most interesting thought on Spielman was his recent comments on Diggs prior to trading him. At the recent combine, Spielman said there’s “no reason to anticipate” that Diggs will be traded, later adding that “Diggs will be back.”
Diggs’ bad blood with the Vikings goes back some time, but Spielman was either playing his hand as a GM to get a better deal for him, or really wanted him back. Did Beane offer him a deal he couldn’t refuse? Either way, intriguing comments only a few short days ago from the Vikings executive.
