Butch Beard was a star guard at Louisville before heading to the NBA. Beard played for five teams in the NBA, averaging better than 9 points per game, 3.4 rebounds per game and 3.6 assists per game. He became a coach and took over the Nets in 1994. Beard lasted two seasons, going 30-52 in both.
