Potential ripple-effect on roster
Just over the weekend, Buffalo head coach Sean McDermott said it’s “next man up” when it comes to replacing Feliciano on the roster. That was before Winters was signed. Still, it’s likely that this philosophy stays the same.
Winters will be in the fight for Feliciano’s spot, but that job isn’t going to be handed to him. Since McDermott took over operations in 2017, he’s employed a system of giving starting jobs to those who earn it. Winters will be no different. In doing so, Winters will have to beat out the links of Evan Boehm, Daryl Williams, and another former teammate of his with the Jets, Spencer Long, among one or two others.
In addition, this move leads one to believe that the Bills will keep things the same as last season at right tackle. At that position in 2019, it was then-rookie Cody Ford and veteran Ty Nsekhe. General manager Brandon Beane indicated over the weekend that there’s a chance both Ford and and Nsekhe could feature in the battle for Feliciano’s spot depending on how things play out. With the Winters signing, that appears like that won’t be the case.
And with all these names in mind, Beane could be considering trade options at the end of training camp as well. He’s been no stranger to moving on offensive linemen for a late-round draft pick in the past.
