Why was he released?
The reason why the Bills now have Winters is pretty simple. Actually the only thing that made the Jets’ decision to move on from Winters a shocking one was the timing. Many expected Winters to be let go by New York at the start of the offseason, and instead, Jets general manager Joe Douglas said Winters would battle for his starting spot during training camp.
The expectation for his earlier release was because of two things: His release saved the Jets about $7.28 million against the salary cap. In doing so now, that brought the Jets current salary cap space up to about $34M. In addition, the Jets pretty much already had his replacement signed. Greg Van Roten was signed by New York this offseason via a three-year deal.
Because the Jets hung onto Winters all offseason, one could wonder if Winters has a desire for some revenge against his former team by signing on with the Bills.
People should know how good #Jets RG Brian Winters was in week 1..that & more coming.
