Thoughts on Dawson Knox

One player some are hoping to see more from in 2020 is tight end Dawson Knox. The 2019 third-round pick flashed at times, making highlight reel plays last season. Unfortunately the then-rookie had a lot of drops, too. Going from his first to his second season, McDermott is expecting some positive steps from his tight end in 2020.

“Dawson’s had a good offseason to this point. We do expect a year of growth and a year of development,” McDermott said. “Really encouraged by the way that he’s approached things, the way that he’s worked on his body this offseason from what it appears. I think a big piece of it is going to be his availability and his consistency.”

Right there at the end, McDermott was referring to those prior mentioned drops. The coach said Knox is aware of needing to improve here, which he should be. But 2020 could be a big year for Knox as well. Is he going to prove he’s No. 1 tight end worthy? Or instead could he just be a second string? Tight end could be a position of need for the Bills after the 2020 season if Knox plays poorly.
