Winters is coming (and other cuts)

A new face could be, and appears likely to be, heading to the Bills… via the Jets. On Sunday, the longest-tenured member of the Jets, offensive lineman Brian Winters, was released by the team. It was a surprise mostly because it seemed like Winters would be staying put, and instead, the Jets decided to release him. The reasoning was salary cap space, but why didn’t the Jets just cut him earlier in the offseason? That question still doesn’t have an answer.

Anyway, The Jets pick up about $7.28 million in cap space without Winters on the books. It’s unknown the details of Winters’ contract in Buffalo, but we do know it’s a one-year deal. If successful in Buffalo, the writing is on the wall. The seven-year vet will have a chance to replace Jon Feliciano, who was lost for an extended period due to a shoulder injury. In recent seasons, the 29-year-old Winters played in Feliciano’s same position, right guard.

Along with Winters, two other players who are not expected to end up with the Bills were also released by the Jets this past week. Those game are oft-injured wideout Quiny Enunwa and running back Trenton Cannon. Both had their successes against the Bills during their time in New York.
