Details on Cam to Patriots
As this offseason has ended up, it appears that Cam Newton is going to be the Patriots’ replacement for Tom Brady. He’s the leading candidate, at least. There’s also essential rookie Jarrett Stidham to consider. For a lengthy period of the offseason, it looked as if Stidham would be the guy filling Brady’s shoes.
But new details from behind-the-scenes have emerged and from what has been reported, the Patriots had interest all along. Patriots Wire reported that the team evidently had interest almost right away in Newton, and even contacted him “just moments after” the Panthers released him.
While not confirming this report fully, Patriots Wire also mentioned a reference New England head coach Bill Belichick made to Newton landing on his roster at the start of training camp.
“Things worked out,” the Patriots coach said Friday. “We spent quite a bit of time with Cam, and he spent quite a bit of time with us. I think there was some mutual interest.”
