Zion Williamson: Youngest player with 20 points in 7 straight games

The No. 1 overall pick is averaging 24.9 points over his last seven games for the Pelicans.

No. 1 overall pick Zion Williamson scored 25 points on Friday night to lead the New Orleans Pelicans to a 128-115 victory over the Portland Trail Blazers.

With the performance, Williamson became the youngest player in NBA history to score at least 20 points in seven consecutive games, beating out the previous holder of Carmelo Anthony in 2004. Williamson is averaging 24.9 points on 55.4% shooting over that span.

The Pelicans swept the season series against the Trail Blazers for just the second time in franchise history and the first since the 2003-04 season. With the win, the Pelicans improved to just four games back of the eighth and final playoff spot as the Memphis Grizzlies lost on Friday night.

After a lengthy delay to his NBA debut, Williamson has likely matched or exceeded some of the astronomical expectations that were placed on him as the No. 1 overall pick in the NBA Draft. He has rarely struggled throughout his 11 games and has often made the opposition look foolish at times.

Next up for the Pelicans: A road matchup vs. the Golden State Warriors.
