Zion Williamson leaving the Pelicans is unlikely, but it’s totally possible

Pelicans fans shouldn’t be concerned…yet

The Pelicans just can’t seem to get it right with their star players. Three seasons ago, they lost Anthony Davis after he demanded a trade from the franchise.

They lucked into getting the number one overall pick in the draft and selected Zion Williamson with the first overall pick. And, as it turns out, he’s a pretty special player and is an All-Star already.

And now he’s reportedly upset with the Pelicans’ organization, too.

The Athletic is reporting that Williamson and his family are unsatisfied with the organization and that certain family members would prefer he played elsewhere at this point.

And that dissatisfaction reportedly had a lot to do with Stan Van Gundy’s exit from the franchise after just one season.

Yikes. Here we go again, maybe.

The Pelicans are in a good spot with Williamson and they have plenty of time to make things right with their star player. He’s under contract for two more seasons and the organization will be able to offer him an extension next year.

But it’s entirely plausible that, if Williamson is dissatisfied enough, he could force his way out. Here’s how.
