No. 1 overall pick Zion Williamson scored 23 points and seven rebounds on Sunday to help lead the New Orleans Pelicans to a 120-107 win over the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Williamson shot 9-of-15 from the field and added one assist and one block in nearly 32 minutes of work. Williamson responded with another 20-point effort after his consecutive 20-point streak was snapped on Friday night after he recorded 17 points in a win over the Miami Heat.
The Pelicans rookie threw down a number of dunks throughout the contest, reminiscent of a dunk contest at times. He connected with teammate Lonzo Ball on several dunks, including two alley-oops from beyond halfcourt.
Williamson became the first player since Michael Jordan to score 20 points in 16 of his first 20 NBA games, according to ESPN Stats & Info. Williamson is now averaging 23.6 points, 6.8 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game.
The Pelicans stayed within four games of the Memphis Grizzlies in the Western Conference playoff race with the victory on Sunday. New Orleans has won two straight now heading into Wednesday night’s matchup against the Sacramento Kings.
