BOSTON — Zack Godley took the mound Sunday for the Boston Red Sox and he had another rough outing against the defending World Series champions Washington Nationals.
Godley, a former University of Tennessee baseball player, pitched a season-high 4.2 innings in Boston’s 9-5 victory over the Nationals Sunday afternoon at Fenway Park.
He surrendered five earned runs, eight hits (including a pair of home runs), a walk and struck out three. The former Vol is, however, still in search of his first victory for the Red Sox.
Godley, who was signed by Boston after being released by the Detroit Tigers in spring training, is now 0-3 with a 7.71 earned run average.
He has made seven appearances for Boston, including six starts.
Despite his abysmal appearance on the mound, the Red Sox (12-22) won the weekend series against the Nationals (12-19).
