After Sunday’s rough showing against the Baltimore Ravens, Jets fans were clamoring were a change at the quarterback position, even chanting for Mike White and Chris Streveler. Streveler, of course, wasn’t even on the gameday roster.
But perhaps a sign of good news popped up Monday on that front. Head coach Robert Saleh told the media that quarterback Zach Wilson will take part in individual drills this week and throw routes on air to receivers.
Zach Wilson will be on the practice field on a "routes on air" and work with the receivers in individual drills this week #Jets

Obviously, that doesn’t mean he is going to be back in the lineup this week, but it is a step in the right direction. Saleh originally said Wilson wouldn’t be available until at least Week 4 against the Steelers.
If all goes well, perhaps Wilson can do a little more work next week and then a full week leading up to the Steelers game, so Wilson may be right on track to return then. Fans, understandably, may feel that is too far away after Sunday’s fiasco, but the Jets always said they were not going to rush Wilson back and wait until he was 100 percent. They were always going to play the long game with Wilson.
That would lead to a natural progression of a full week of practice and team drills next week no?👀👀👀 and Zach will start once he can do a full week of practice 🤷🤷🤷 so….. https://t.co/UXkvErdWfb

As much as Jets fans want a change at the quarterback position, it probably won’t happen anytime soon. On Monday, Saleh defended Joe Flacco, who threw for 307 yards on 59 attempts against the Ravens, saying “Joe’s been very, very steady throughout OTAs, training camp. Last year, he threw for 300 on Miami in a really good game. We’ve got the utmost faith in Joe. Does that mean something can’t happen tonight? I’m not going to promise you anything, but as of now, Joe’s our starting quarterback.”

Door open? "It's more likely going to be Joe, but the door is open for every position every wk."

While Saleh said that, he didn’t exactly close the door on not making a switch.
“Everything is always under discussion and review,” Saleh said. “It’s more likely going to be Joe, but the door is open for every position every week.”
The confidence is radiating throughout the building.
