A big part of the hype surrounding Colorado hiring Deion Sanders as head coach was what it meant for the quarterback position with most experts predicting that Shedeur Sanders would follow his father to Colorado. Coach Prime eliminated any doubt when he introduced his son as “your quarterback” at his introductory press conference.
But how far can Shedeur Sanders carry the Buffaloes’ new-look offense in his first season in Boulder? He lit up the FCS level during his two years at Jackson State, but some believe that it will take time for Sanders to adapt to both the FBS and Power Five ranks.
Zach Segars of Mile High Sports, however, was not among those pessimistic experts. We asked Segars what we will see out of Shedeur Sanders in 2023 and his answer should excite Buffs fans:
I’m expecting a hyper-productive campaign that results in some level of NFL draft buzz, as he captains CU’s offense to be one of the Pac-12’s better attacks. Shedeur Sanders is surrounded by waves of considerable talent at all of the skill positions other than TE, and the rebuilt offensive line projects to be solid. Plus, Sean Lewis knows how to run a dynamic offense, as proven during his time with Kent State. That offense is part of the reason the expectation for Sanders should be a high degree of production. This offense breeds gaudy numbers in the passing game like no other. I’d place the bar high. Around 3,500 passing yards (would’ve ranked 5th in the conference last year), and 30 total TDs (7th). Anything less would feel like a disappointment.
