The Cincinnati Bengals had a chance to silence most doubters by winning a third straight over the weekend.
Instead, a loss to the Baltimore Ravens has them falling in the power rankings again.
This time the power rankings come with a twist, too — they’re not opposed to name-dropping the drama around Bengals head Zac Taylor.
In the latest from USA Today’s Nate Davis, the Bengals dip one spot and Taylor comes up:
“11. Bengals (10): Always wise to take Twitter’s instructiveness with a few grains of salt … but, man, do people hate coach Zac Taylor’s play calling – particularly during Sunday night’s loss at Baltimore.”
Taylor had to confront some of these questions early this week, responding to the idea that he should surrender play-calling duties.
That’s not going to happen, of course, not when the offensive effort for the team under Taylor has always been a collective one. So whether the team can rise again in the power rankings and take advantage of an iffy-looking AFC North will come down to whether said collective can figure things out in a hurry.
