The Philadelphia 76ers were already sending Joel Embiid to All-Star weekend in Cleveland as he earned his fifth consecutive All-Star start, but now they will be sending another player to Cleveland.
Second-year guard Tyrese Maxey, who has taken a big leap in a much bigger role, has been selected to the Rising Stars Challenge at All-Star weekend. Taking over the starting point guard role amid the ongoing Ben Simmons saga, Maxey is averaging 16.8 points, 4.7 assists, and 3.5 rebounds while shooting 46.7% from the floor and 40.1% from deep.
Maxey has taken plenty of big steps in the 2021-22 season as he has grown both on the offensive end and as a leader. He has been a solid scorer and he has been a surprisingly good 3-point shooter as it is clear that he has put the work in. This is an award he has deserved.
No surprises here: Tyrese Maxey is officially one of 12 sophomore players chosen for the Rising Stars Challenge by NBA assistant coaches.
Maxey's the first Rising Star selection for the Sixers since Ben Simmons in 2019.

Maxey and the Sixers will look to sweep their 5-game homestand when they take on the Washington Wizards on Wednesday.
