It was not as pretty as most had hoped, but the Florida Gators emerged from Rocky Top on Saturday with both a win and a berth in the Southeastern Conference Championship Game thanks to a 31-19 final score against the Tennessee Volunteers.
One of the more notable events from yesterday’s game was not a big touchdown pass or a crushing defensive play, but a surprise pooch punt by UF quarterback Kyle Trask. With 3:21 remaining in the game and the Gators at Tennessee’s 36-yard line, UF’s gunslinger lined up in the shotgun on fourth-and-14, and after taking the snap booted the ball to the 4-yard-line where it was downed by Jacob Copeland.

The sneaky play was a bit of a feather-in-the-cap for the Heisman Trophy candidate, who put on another quality performance with a 35-of-49 for 433-yard effort and four touchdowns passing. After the game, head coach Dan Mullen got into the fun, suggesting that the punt play was what Trask needed to separate himself from the other Heisman hopefuls.
Mullen jokes that maybe the pooch punt was Kyle Trask's #11esiman moment.
