Yankees fans mercilessly chanted ‘[Expletive] Altuve!’ at Astros’ series opener in New York

Yankees fans were eager and ready to taunt the Astros as much as possible.

The Houston Astros kicked off a three-game series at Yankee Stadium against the home team Tuesday. And they got the exact kind of welcome you’d expect, and it wasn’t a warm one.

The series is the Astros’ first visit to the Bronx since news of their sign-stealing scandal broke at the end of 2019. And because of a shortened 2020 season and largely empty ballparks because of the COVID-19 pandemic, many fan bases that felt robbed of a chance to taunt the Astros are getting the opportunity this year.

So Tuesday, Yankees fans were ready and angry, especially when you remember their team lost to Houston in the 2019 and 2017 postseasons (and the Astros won it all in 2017). They creatively roasted the Astros with the help of costumes, signs and t-shirts, and the crowd vigorously booed Alex Bregman after he homered in the first.

Second baseman Jose Altuve got very similar treatment with loud boos as he stepped up to the plate. And Yankees fans didn’t hold back, chanting: “[Expletive] Altuve!” And they were merciless.

Warning: These videos have some NSFW language in them, obviously.

Just more quintessential New York treatment from Yankees fans.
