Friday night was a high school football blockbuster that included major upsets from California to Georgia to Florida, with No. 1 Mater Dei falling to No. 9 St. John Bosco, No. 14 Mill Creek holding off No. 6 Buford and No. 13 Miami Central losing in a stunner to unranked Norland.
As expected with that type of headline-grabbing gridiron action, social media turned into a highlight reel of top plays that didn’t end until the wee hours of Saturday.
Ahead of what’s to be indeed a significant reset in the USA TODAY High School Sports Super 25 rankings, the staff scoured the best of the best and settled on these five athletes who were true “X” Factors on the field from this wild week.
Let’s give a standing-O to the following HSS Players of the Week:
– Jordan Lyle, St. Thomas Aqiunas (Fla.)
– Norland Defense (Miami, Fla.)
– Montravion Graham, Bowling Green (Ky.)
– Trajen Greco, Mill Creek (Ga.)
– Stacy Dobbins and Tommy Maher, St. John Bosco (Calif.)
Note from the HSS team: To possibly have an athlete featured in our weekly selection, DM the highlight videos to USA TODAY High School Sports on Instagram or Twitter.
