The Biggest Party of the Summer is about to rev it up a little louder this year.
That’s because WWE SummerSlam 2023 is headed for Ford Field in Detroit. The home of the NFL’s Detroit Lions is no stranger to premium live events — it was the site of WrestleMania 23, after all — but it hasn’t hosted one since 2007. So even though this will mark WWE’s return to holding PLEs in the continental U.S. after visiting Puerto Rico, Saudi Arabia and London over the past few months, the fans in the Motor City should be suitably eager to welcome their favorite superstars.
They’ll get to see some massive rematches from other events this year. Cody Rhodes and Brock Lesnar will tangle for the third time after splitting their first two meetings (Rhodes won at Backlash, while Lesnar evened things up at Night of Champions), and their match at Detroit should settle things between them. Maybe.
Seth Rollins was ready to move on to face new challengers for his World Heavyweight Championship, but Finn Balor simply wouldn’t let him go. Plus there’s the threat of Balor’s teammate from The Judgment Day, Damian Priest, cashing in his Money in the Bank briefcase as well.
The truth is that SummerSlam, like almost every premium live event during WWE’s current hot streak, doesn’t even need to announce matches to get people worked into a frenzy. If you’re one of them, here’s a quick recap of when and where it’s going down.
