It’s not often you get to control your own destiny when it comes to preventing one of your records from being broken, but that’s what The New Day is facing this week on WWE SmackDown.
It’s a point of pride and of legacy for The New Day to be the longest reigning WWE tag team champions of any kind. The iconic group held the titles for 483 days during one of their many reigns, a mark that has yet to be surpassed.
Except The Usos are nearly there. Jimmy and Jey aren’t just the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Champions by virtue of holding the Raw and SmackDown titles, they’ve been in possession of the latter for more than 480 days. They will break the record unless Xavier Woods and Kofi Kingston can come up big in Indianapolis.
The two teams cut an excellent promo for this match on Raw, and this should be an excellent match considering how high the stakes are.

That’s not all SmackDown has going for it on this particular Friday night. Ronda Rousey needs a new challenger for her SmackDown Women’s Championship, so WWE is going to find her one in the most chaotic fashion possible: a Six-Pack Challenge.
And the World Cup begins in Indy as well. No, not the world’s most popular sporting event, but the WWE equivalent of that famous tournament. This eight-man bracket kicks off on SmackDown with Santos Escobar and Shinsuke Nakamura facing each other, and the eventual winner will get a shot at Gunther and his Intercontinental Championship.
So get ready, Gainbridge Fieldhouse, because SmackDown is packing a lot into these two hours. If you aren’t able to tune in live on FOX, please bookmark this page and check back later for the most up to date WWE SmackDown results as they happen.
