Update: WWE has added a women’s tag team match pitting Bianca Belair and Charlotte Flair against the Damage CTRL duo of Bayley and IYO SKY.
Original post follows.
After all of the incredible moments that Edge has given WWE fans over the course of his 25-year career, is he down to one final memory on SmackDown in Toronto? The truth is that even he doesn’t seem to know for sure.
Here’s what we do know: Last week, Edge challenged Sheamus, a man who he’s known for years and considers a good friend, but has never wrestled, to a match tonight in front of his home fans. Both are currently fan favorites, so this could be a sportsmanlike, “spirit of competition” style matchup, or it could be sowing the seeds for something else.
If it’s the latter, there’s a premium live event called Payback just a few weeks from now that’s worth keeping in mind. But considering Edge has stated that this is the final match on his WWE contract, there’s some legitimate intrigue over whether he may hang up his boots after tonight.
Tonight’s SmackDown will also see another edition of The Grayson Waller Effect, because that’s simply how the loudmouthed Aussie rolls. His guest will be new United States Champion Rey Mysterio, who subbed in for his injured LWO teammate Santos Escobar and won the title from Austin Theory last week.
Surely, Waller isn’t going to use his time to try to drive a wedge between Mysterio and Escobar by suggesting that Rey stole that opportunity from Santos. No, he would never do that. Wink, wink.
There’s also an above average chance that Theory could crash the party as he’s probably not thrilled to be a former champion. Again, Payback is looming. Just saying.
We’re set to take in everything from Toronto beginning at 8 p.m. ET tonight. If you have other plans and can’t do the same, might we suggest that you check out out WWE SmackDown results post later this evening? We’ll keep you up to speed on all the action.
