INGLEWOOD, Calif. — Night 1 of WrestleMania 39 had its share of thrills and emotional moments, particularly in championship victories by Rhea Ripley and Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn. Now it’s time to see what WWE can do for an encore.
The main event of night 2 is one that’s been locked in since January, when Cody Rhodes won the Royal Rumble. He’s been laser focused on winning the world championship his legendary father never did since his return to WWE last year, flawlessly playing the role of the company’s top babyface for months.
Standing in his way is only the man who’s had an iron grip on both of the WWE men’s world titles for some time, Roman Reigns. While Reigns has let Paul Heyman do much of the talking during the run-up to WrestleMania 39, he remains the unquestioned top dog of the company, and there will be intense interest to see if he leaves SoFi Stadium with gold still in his possession.
Another champion looking to avoid being dethroned is Raw Women’s Champion Bianca Belair. She’ll be competing against a foe she knows well in Asuka … or at least one she did know well, as Asuka has acted increasingly unpredictable in recent weeks, and figures to be Belair’s stiffest test since she won her title at WrestleMania last year.
Two other matches on the night 2 card figure to up the ante on pure spectacle. The first bout of the night is expected to be the one pitting Brock Lesnar against an impossibly large opponent, the Nigerian Giant Omos. And Edge may feel confident going into a Hell in a Cell match given all he’s done in his legendary career, but he’s facing a rarely seen (and very successful) foe in “The Demon” persona of Finn Balor.
Wrestling Junkie will be in the house again at SoFi Stadium recapping all the action as WrestleMania 39 reaches its crescendo. You can watch starting at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT on Peacock in the U.S., or on WWE Network internationally. But if you’re not able to watch, check this post for results and links to full match details all throughout the night.
