LSU head coach Ed Orgeron has accomplished a great deal in his time in Baton Rouge — a national championship win on an undefeated 2019 season will tell you that much.
But another thing he’s well known for is his success in recruiting, and the Class of 2023 is one that many have their eyes on. He’s listed by Rivals as a four-star recruit and the No. 19 overall player in the nation.
Baton Rouge has produced several great players, and wide receiver Shelton Sampson of Catholic High School will be one to watch.
The 6-foot-4, 180-pounder who has shown exception route-running ability is one the Tigers will be trying to land, and one who was been heavily recruited with offers from the likes of Virginia, Georgia, Ole Miss, Florida and Florida State on top of LSU.
“I like LSU since it’s the school closest to home,” Sampson said. “We’re just in the beginning of our relationship. I really like what they do on offense.”
Sampson says he’s had a lot of fun training with the F3 Elite team, participating in 7-on-7 tournaments where he’s been very successful.
Felt good out there this weekend but I’m nowhere near where I want to be. So it’s up from here!!! @F3Elite7v7 @samspiegs @JeritRoser pic.twitter.com/qhaHDElQwT

“My ball skills (set me apart), being able to locate the ball,” Sampson said. “Wherever the ball is, you can bet on my ability to go up and get it.”
There’s obviously still a good bit of time remaining until we’ll know just exactly where Sampson will end up, but there’s no doubting that he’ll be able to elevate the receiving corps of whichever team he ends up with.
