One of the biggest questions heading into the season was which player would establish himself as the third wide receiver on the Chargers.

It took a little bit to decipher, but in the past few weeks it’s become evident that WR Jalen Guyton has solidified himself in that role.

When you look at Guyton’s stat sheet, he only has eight receptions. But when you keep looking beyond that, he has totaled 258 yards receiving and scored three touchdowns. That’s an average of 32.3 yards per catch.

Guyton most recently reeled in a 70-yard bomb from quarterback Justin Herbert in Sunday’s victory over the Jaguars.

“We saw man coverage and we knew that Jalen Guyton is a special guy on the outside. He got past the guy, great protection, put the ball up and he made a great catch while avoiding the tackle to get in the end zone,” quarterback Justin Herbert said about the scoring play.

Los Angeles valued speed when it came to the evaluation process during training camp. Guyton’s speed (4.35 40-yard dash) is what ultimately won the team over.

The former North Texas product has been putting it to good use, as he’s dusted defensive backs on multiple occasions which has led to positive results.

The combination of Herbert’s big arm and Guyton’s deep speed is only going to continue to put stress on opposing defenses. Watch out.
