Would a team led by Victor Wembanyama have handled the Dallas Mavericks better in the Western Conference finals?

Of course, the Spurs would have had to have been good enough to end up in such a position to begin with.

You know that the 2024 NBA offseason has arrived in force once the NBA analysts start brushing off the counterfactual arguments with aplomb. And that is exactly where we find ourselves in a recent hypothetical posed to the wider San Antonio Spurs community.

The host of the “Locked On Spurs” podcast, Jeff Garcia, recently sat down with guest of the show Matt Guzman to explore whether “Victor Wembanyama would have done a better job than Rudy Gobert versus the (Dallas) Mavericks in the West Finals” in light of how poorly things went for the Minnesota Timberwolves did vs. the Mavs in the West finals.

Of course, the Spurs would have had to have been good enough to end up in such a position to begin with, but given how good Wemby already is, that’s not such a wild take for a counterfactual.

Take a look at the clip embedded above to hear what they had to say.
